ahah thank you thank you! c: making my poses more dynamic has been something i've been trying for for awhile. shaking the stiffness out of my characters is so hard though /sob

You can say THAT again. It's terribly hard to make my characters all pretty and flowy. I look at other works and wonder "how the hell did you make your lines so nice?"

And it sucks because it doesn't feel like it's a style or skill problem. It feels like a "me" problem

nooo i think all that needs to be happening is like drawing from life! not perfectly, ya know? just trying to catch the essence of things. i think that'll make things better   yaaaassss

lol i usually show it to my friends when they're feeling discouraged! they have this habit of talking to me as if i just awoke one day, capable of art, and hadn't slaved over sketchbook upon sketchbook, for years and years and years, celebrating even the smallest accomplishments and having the occasional nervous breakdown, ya know? so they understand that i worked for what i have and they can improve too, no matter what level they're on D:< 
but do you ever do the thing where you look at old art and get confused cuz you feel like it's better than what you're doing now?!

oooh that's a really good idea o: i hadn't even considered it. i usually just start sketching things up when i wanna practice inking, but that sounds like an interesting idea.

Omg yes to EVERYTHING! I personally don't find "you're so TALENTED" as a huge compliment anymore.. only because I didn't decide one day "okay, I'm going to draw awesome stuff now." Art is 1% talent and 99% blood, sweat, and tears (and no sleep. Definitely no sleep). Good on you for telling your friends that you worked your butt off to get where you are today. I think if people and young artists saw it that way, there would be less discouragement. Yeah, getting bummed out happens regardless, but if you know you have to keep working at it to get somewhere, it definitely helps against the temptation of quitting.

Ahh, the old art thing happens when I try to figure out how to be more creative and then I look at my old stuff and wonder how I was able to come up with all that stuff. I hate it but I love it, too xD

I was watching a youtube video of an inker and he was saying that's how he got good at it, by experimenting with his old sketchbooks. That way, when he wanted to ink something new, there would be less risk of messing it up! It made perfect sense!

yeah! people always compare their doodles and sketches to people's perfected masterpieces and then they think they're no good, too. i think things would be so much smoother if people just shared more about old art and their processes and stuff o: 

oooh that is smart! i dunno tho cuz i don't like touching old things. i have no idea why but it becomes like this little piece of time that i don't want to mess with o_o

I think so too. Draw this again or yearly progress memes usually help! However, I've also seen people's sketches and doodles and THOSE are also awesome! (I love sketches and doodles! )

Yeah, there are some pieces I wouldn't touch at all! I'd be pretty upset if I ruined some older pieces because of the sentimental value. I haven't touched my inking pens yet because I'm working on my pencil art, but I will as soon as I can!

omg redrawing are the best XD i feel so great when i redo something. but i feel like i've stagnated and whatnot within the last year but one of my friends said i've improved since i've started college? i dunno i'm trying but i had like a miniature crisis yesterday about me art o:
