I'm starting with the man in the mirrorI'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change
~Man in the Mirror, Michael Jackson
FOREWARD NOTE: If you have nothing nice to say about veganism, please just don't post here. I never called anyone names for not being vegan. I refuse to answer to any sort of flames or hate, it'll get ignored. Now, if you have a valid question about veganism feel free, I can do my best to answer.
Socks: Didn't think I could do it, didja?
Calf:
Today is my one year anniversary of going vegan.
Anyways, so here we are today. It's one year later from the very day I just...dropped it (I did the same thing when I went vegetarian, just how I roll) Sure I had some slip ups, never on purpose: it takes some learning to figure out what products are 100% vegan (now I know what to look for and always recheck the labels) but veganism isn't about perfection (to all those that claim there is "no such thing as a vegan") it's about doing the best you can to do the least amount of harm to animals, the planet and to yourself.
Since I went vegan I've dropped a few pant sizes (I was always overweight - please note that there is plenty of vegan junk food out there though, you need to focus on whole foods and exercise too) I seriously feel better than I have in years. For my "cheese addiction" I have Daiya vegan cheese, which is awesome! I have been leaning more towards raw, whole foods though. It's not only healthier, it's less expensive than processed stuff.
Anyways I went off on a ramble. This is my little celebration artwork. I thought a cow calf was the perfect animal to represent here.
PS: Please DO NOT call me a "PETA freak" or link me to PETA. I know about what they do and while I agree with their message overall I do not approve of some of the things they do.

A dog and a calf together, how cute is that! It almost reminds me of the kitten and deer together in Milo & Otis.

Thanks! Aww, Milo & Otis was one of my favorite childhood movies. I used to watch it so much I nearly wore out the vhs tape and I had an orange cat who I named after Milo. :3

Congratulations!
I'm a vegetarian now, but when I grow up, I will probably slip more over to veganism. I hope so, at least ^-^

I liked you rant ^^
I'm addicted to cheese, but reading that was kind of creepy I tried to go vegetarian so many times.. My father is a butcher and he didn't like it at all.. The whole town laughed at my choice because I was 'the butcher's daughter' -.- Going vegan was and is something I still really want to do, but.. Is it wrong of me that I don't really think that much of the animals? I mean.. I think cows and pigs are adorable, and I've never eaten horse, rabbit, hare and 'wild meats' before.. God I'm rambling on your artwork sorry!

No worries for the ramble!
Ouch, I hate when people laugh like that. Really ticks me off. Pay them no mind, you gotta do what you feel is right no matter what anyone says or thinks. People always make fun of what they don't understand, thankfully some of them are open minded enough to listen (since I went vegan I've had a few friends express some serious interest in it themselves) I guess I got really fortunate with the family issue, my parents actually went vegetarian with me all those years ago. My dad went vegan a few years before me and my mom joined me in veganism several months after I made the change myself. My parents have always been huge animal lovers and "flower children of the 60s" so to speak so it didn't take much for them to get on board.
As for the animal issue, people go vegan for all sorts of reasons. Refusal to pay for animal cruelty is usually the top one and the one that keeps most people vegan, IMO. I have a friend who went vegetarian just for their own health years ago and then went back to meat (in part, I think, thanks to the people surrounding them...which makes me think of what happened to you - people make fun; it makes it hard. I stopped caring what people think a while ago) It also seems like, to me, if there's no strong moral to back it up then there's less of a chance of one sticking to it. If I did this just for myself, I doubt I woulda stuck to it. I'm not a health nut, I fall off my personal "healthier me" attempts all the time. But since seeing what I've seen I can't look at meat/dairy the same way anymore. Someone can look at a burger and just see fast food, I see graphic visuals of what went down to get that burger on said person's plate. Someone pours a glass of milk and I just think about the baby that was torn from it's mom and shipped off to a veal crate. It's disturbing to think about, but more disturbing that it's real. That's what keeps me vegan, personally. Nothing wrong with going vegan for your health or the environment overall of course, if you have the passion and the commitment it'll stick.
PS: Sorta random but I thought I'd share something cute: my friend has a pet pig! Her name's Eleanor...Eleanor Pigby. I met her for the first time at a Halloween party last year (took one of my dogs with me) Ellie acts just like one of the dogs (pigs are really smart; in fact they can learn just about everything a dog can) and I spent half the evening snuggled up on the couch between a pig and a dog. XD (Yup, Ellie is house trained and all that too)

It's lovely your family backed you up like that! I wish mine were more like yours.. My mother tried to sneak meat into my dishes - so awful. Her opinion is that it's a natural thing to do and humans can't live without a little meat, cheese and milk. Even with all the evidence there is in the world..
I see graphics like you with most things too. Just the thought of a baby cow getting pulled away from the mother is something that almost can make me cry and I think the same thing about eggs - tiny little chicks that never has the change to become alive. So those things, I never eat. Meat doesn't even taste good and I only eat it for appearances at the moment, but thinking about how it came to lie on my plate makes me sick.. My father even brings home half pigs around christmas and I just lock myself into my room while trying to ignore the sounds of chopping from the kitchen, but I know what's going on and how it looks, because it's something I've been taught since I was a child.. Gee, do I speak against myself when I said I don't care that much for the animals?
That's so cute! A little pet pig, aww! I've always wanted a pet pig, because I once saw s Swedish series about a kid who saved a pig and kept it as his 'dog' instead, it was so adorable! I can't believe someone is actually able to eat pigs when they raise them from small piglets - and with the fact they're smarter than dogs. ΓΆ
Ah, I really talk a lot - sorry - your answer made my brain go into ramble mode once again! I think I'll quit meat for good no matter what people say and try to go vegan once again when the time is ready.. You really cleared my mind! Thank you! ^^

Wow, that's just...yeah. Even if she doesn't care to listen or be vegetarian, she should at least respect your views. Lol I think you care more about animals than you let on in the first post, but that's a good thing
Pigs are awesome, if I had the space I would love one as a pet too! Here's a picture of Eleanor Pigby for ya: [link] That's my dog Wahya looking at her and my friend petting her. Wahya couldn't figure out what type of "dog" she was. Ellie's human has two dogs (a newfie/lab mix and a pitbull), a bunny and a hamster too. And their entire family (even the dogs) are vegan. I've always been on the fence about that one (dogs as vegans) but my friend's pups are in excellent health so it makes me wonder.
PS: Rambles are fun, no worries!

Oh it's so cute! I've never seen a all black piggie before - only pink and spotted ones. Is your dog a German Shepard by any chance? Eleanor is so adorable! I want her in my house~ I've only tried housing guinea pigs though.. They were my babies~ lol [link]
And their dog is vegan too? Γ I didn't know that was possible.. I mean.. I don't know it seems kind of unnatural, but if you say nothing is wrong with the pups, then it's fine I guess?

Nice! I don't think I could ever pull that off. I tried going vegetarian, but it's just not a choice being Cajun. Everything we eat has something that makes it non-vegetarian. Plus, I love fried chicken way too much. And shrimp. Even though I hate to see these animals killed for me to have something to eat....

Well, there are vegan alternatives to just about everything. I personally love vegan "chik'n". There's a number of brands out there, takes a little exploring to see which ones you prefer. Personally I like boca ([link] ) & yves ([link] ) for vegan "meats" and daiya ([link] ) & tofutti ([link] ) for vegan "cheese". Like I said in my ramble though I'm trying to have less of this stuff overall, simply cause I'm leaning away from processed food. XD
PS: You might like this too: [link] vegge takes on Cajun recipes, there are more out there of course (just google vegan cajun recipes, a lot comes up) I might hafta try a few of these sometime XD
