In this stream of thought, I want to try to describe the lore, characters and plot of my "anime" with my friend, as it was his ideas that started this remake marathon.
One night we were sitting with my best friend on discord and I decided to show him my characters by giving him the task of coming up with a story for them, since more often than not the koi don't have one.
I'm not going to let this happen, but I'm going to try to figure out a way to make my character's life work for me.
So Kuro became the main character, Eva the cliffhanger of the whole further story, and the members of "Mikazuki" became quite important characters for the finale, while Tsubaki and Yui-Min went through the biggest metamorphosis in their personas.
Initially they were like a plug for the plot. Tsubaki was the surviving demon princess, Kuro's first love and she tries to talk some sense into him and bla-bla-bla, and Yui Min was just a girl who out of love for the princess decided to help her on her journey.
Then we realised how boring and unnecessary characters they are in the whole plot, and gave them the role of a detached view of the situation. Tsubaki became a patriot of the Empire (the main evil of the plot) and in her journey she seeks the truth, while Yui Min's role was still just as useless and faded.
The final transformation of their characters seems to be the most important thing in the story, as they are now not just a third point of view on the situation, but a new opposing force. Tsubaki and Yui-Min are now the descendants of a surviving ancient race that was destroyed by the power of magical crystals. The survivors have gathered together in a closed society and ended up becoming a kind of Freemasons, who now make sure that the crystals will never be used again. For this there is a special unit that fights against the sources of the stones, according to them they have destroyed everything that could be connected to it.
Only there is a huge but, in the Empire there is a scientist who discovers and studies the potential of the stones, and then it turns out that in a neighbouring country there is the last of their source, and this is where the story begins and now I will try to describe just the plot.
Lore, which was prescribed by a friend: "There was an ancient race that used magic crystals, because of them there was a cataclysm and their use was forbidden. Centuries later, the crystals became an ornament with the last deposit in the Eve Kingdom, the Empire learns about how the crystals were used before and decides to attack the Eve Kingdom.
The demon kingdom sends an army to the aid of its ally, but fails and the capital falls, at the same time taking advantage of the demons confusion, the Empire also strikes their capital thus destroying two nations in one war."
"Ingwald the Lord of Storms IV (Tyrant) - Formerly a wise ruler and excellent tactician, in his old age he became afraid of losing power and is willing to do anything to keep it. Under his rule the Empire has conquered half of the continent. Because of greed, he attacked the allied states, destroying two kingdoms almost entirely."
This is just a description of the beginning of the story, we've divided our story into "seasons" and "arcs", we've even picked up the openning and endings to it all.
The first arc (14 episodes) puts Eva as the protagonist, the narrative style is entirely in the shôjo style. Eva is the standard princess in a golden cage, she has never left the castle and dreams of freedom. An attack by the Empire begins, the servants help the girl escape and she meets Kuro, the beginning of their journey, as stated earlier, the demons do not have time to help the allies and rush back to their homeland, but even there they see only devastation.
Kuro creates the "Mikazuki", and after a while Eva gives him the idea of a religion, he agrees, as he thinks of the benefits that would bring some power over the ordinary citizens of the Empire and of course because of his love for the girl. Even such a dry spirit as Kuro has developed deep feelings for Eva over the course of their adventure together.
Eva, on the other hand, fully believes in the necessity of religion due to her piety and naivety. Here I want to point out that in our universe, religion was only developed in the Kingdom of Eva, as: "The royal family, descendants of an ancient technological race who, as the years passed, began to believe that magic was brought into this world by the first king of this kingdom."
So a year passed, they worked out a religion together, Eva was sincerely absorbed in helping people, because of this she became not just the head of the church, but the Holy Maiden, Kuro on the other hand ran the church from the shadows for his own interests, but sometimes absorbed by Eva's sincerity unselfishly helped her.
And so 'Mikazuki' is gaining strength, the religion is at the peak of popularity and has almost become the Empire's ubiquitous religion.
Everything is fine between Eva and Kuro, they promise to meet each other for a stroll along the promenade, but due to strange and suspicious circumstances our hero is delayed for a long time on his mission, comes to Eva and does not find the girl at her usual prayer, rushes to the meeting place, she is not there either.
Amongst the passers-by he hears a stirring rumour of a brutal execution today, trying to ward off horrifying thoughts he rushes as hard as he can to the square, on arriving he sees the battered Eve, who spots him amongst the crowd and gives him her last smile, a swing of the sword and her head falls.
These events in the first arc are shown to us on Eve's behalf, because the church has become too prominent and she was essentially the centre of it all, they decide to execute her and not just execute her, but also abuse her status as a Holy Maiden. Before being executed, she is raped in front of everyone, people who saw her die were so impressed by her final smile, they are even more likely to believe in her divine origin and riots erupt throughout the empire.
Towards the end we are shown Kuro's face, which gradually takes on a horrified and distraught expression, his eyes going dark.
On such an interesting breakdown of the shôjo atmosphere, the first arc ends.
The second arc (12 episodes) presents Tsubaki and Yui-Min, their platoon, their goal and the way they travel throughout the Empire gathering information on the crystals and the Mikazuki, initially it is all shown in a cute manner, the journey of the two girls, various touching stories of the inhabitants, but the ending reveals the ways they eventually use to get information from people, and that the inhabitants were not as forthcoming and bloody in the end.
In the second arc the first season ends, at its most interesting, so to speak.
Season two begins with the third arc, "The Dark Auction" (12 episodes), we are introduced to just the end of the events of the first arc on Kuro's behalf, how he went insane after that and began more radical operations. The other members of the Mikazuki, Rounfrid Zerfal, Tama Mahir and Al-Haru Namira are also introduced.
Rounfrid is just that scientist who unlocked the potential of crystals, and because of her desire for chaos she agrees to join the Mikazuki, thereby equipping the squad with powerful weapons. Showing her struggle and acceptance of her thirst for chaos. Also the fact that Kuro carefully avoids her.
Tama-Mahir, the leader of the Dark Auction, is a greedy person who is only in the organization for profit, and Namir joined because of his passion for combat, and since Tama has "a little" influence on him.
The entire third arc will no longer have a deceptively cute vibe and will focus entirely on revealing new characters and the Dark Auction.
The fourth arc (12 episodes) "The calm before the storm", to be honest it and the next final season a friend never really spelled it out, and I can only describe the vague picture from his words. But the main point of that arc is to show us Kuro's crazy plans and set us up for the consequences.
The last season and the "Holy War" arc (12 episodes), it shows the effects of Kuro's plans, i.e. total chaos and leading the Empire to war, in the end somehow all the characters involved must face each other in battle, and in the final moment Kuro activates the magic crystal in his heart, a huge explosion occurs that destroys half the Empire, everyone dies, the end.
As you can see, the beginning of the story is the most elaborate, and the rest is so-so, because I repeat the whole thing started with a cackle in discord, and at least this universe got some sort of plot only because I dripped on the brain of my friend, he thinks the whole thing is a cringe. I contributed practically nothing important to the plot and lore, in fact I'm just a character designer and an advisor to the head writer.
Next will be a stream of thoughts just about character design, and how it influenced plot decisions, because it is from these images that the lore was born.
Initially the whole cackle started with Armera, that's the past name of Rounfried, aka "the witch", as a friend calls her most often. He just decided to make a cute-looking girl into a villain for fun and put her in the ranks of a secret organization and look what happened. Unfortunately, because I did her remake last, she had the least amount of energy and inspiration left. Her eyes are the most important thing in her character, as they are in all characters. Her gaze is supposed to be something wrong, something that shouldn't be in her character, as she looks completely normal and only her blank, strange look is indicative of psychological problems.
We've noticed for ourselves that almost everyone in the end came out looking like a freak, and the only good character died. We think it's just a consequence of the fact that we don't really know how to make a good plot and that lunatics are cool, that's our final word.
But let's start with the designs in order, Kuro I think came out just great in terms of main character design, he's so default it's awesome. I'm even proud of the fact that I could totally get a feel for this vibe, but even so, Kuro is one of our favorite characters. By the way he should have a second version, just from the second half of the story when he went insane, his eyes are completely black and he's changed his mask to something else.
Our second favorite character, Eve, I really worked on her, she's a saint if I do say so. I just love making such beautiful characters. Her unusual hair and eyes are just a consequence of being related to an ancient race.
Tsubaki, which we should have logically changed to a Chinese name but were lazy and got bored with, didn't turn out well because we still can't shake the feeling that she and Yui Min aren't the most useful characters for the plot. Her design just came out of the idea of "well hanfu is straight Chinese, so let it be so", only her face reveals to us her snarky personality and love of cosmetics.
We already liked Yu Ming better, so we took the image of a naive and absent-minded girl and ended up with a sexy Chinese girl in a qipao. Her peculiarity is that it looks like we created a character not just with a personality disorder, but maybe with some mental development, because she sees the whole world in her colours and doesn't perceive cruelty at all. She's like that character from Team Fortress who thought she was shooting rainbows and not fire.
Well the main favourites by vote, Tama and Namir, formerly Minori and Mamoru. And secretly Namir is my friend's favourite character.
I didn't think I could convey their message well enough because I'm not an expert on oriental themes, but because they are bestial beasts, they are loved by practically everyone.
The image of the greedy Tama only came out of the pose, and Namir turned into a fighter just because of the colour of her hair and naked torso. Tama was originally a cat, but as always on cue a friend called her a "chanterelle" which eventually got out of hand and she became a fey, as I wanted to emphasize her oriental origins not just with clothes, by the way that happened with Namir the former tiger who became a jackal from the Anubis statue.
We had his own way of doing a remake of Namir in general, due to his being the second male character a friend of mine was counting on most, and we based the image on Kenshi Yonezu - POP SONG, and the overall anime character archetype of "ATSUY NE", which I can briefly explain is the same type of characters that are very emotional, particularly passionate about something and have a stand out look. Also, to give an excuse for his flamboyant image and to tie their relationship to Tama, Namir is her "dummy" for the commercials.
I want to point out how different the stylistics of everyone's clothes are, which depends on the hero's homeland, Demon Land, which is Japanese fashion, Empire and the Kingdom of Eve, European, Beastman Desert, Oriental culture, and the descendants of an ancient race, China. Thanks to this it's very easy to tell everyone apart.
Somehow that's how an entire plot for an 'anime' was born out of an evening mindless chat.
