Synopsis: "Sofia must learn how to be a princess."

There are a lot of ways to create a good pilot, and Sofia The First managed to do one pretty well. The story here is that Sofia becomes a princess when her mother marries the king, and now she has to learn how to be a proper princess in time for her royal ball. Of course, she has to deal with her stepsister Amber and deal with the sorcerer Cedric, who's after her new amulet. This film not only manages to lay the groundwork for the show while still telling a good story, but it also manages to subvert your expectations in what could be a typical fairy tale. You manage to sympathize with Sofia since she's new to the princess game, and thus feels insecure, which many people can relate to. Plus, she proves to be very kind and gentle, keeping her likable. Amber may seem like a typical jealous stepsister, but you can actually understand her motivation when Sofia unintentionally shows her up. Cedric manages to be a fun villain with his over the top mannerisms. In true Disney fashion , we get a lot of clever humor and great songs as the film dives into the relationship between Sofia and Amber. With Cinderella's cameo at the climax, we end on a good moral on how it's best to patch things up with others before it's too late. It's a good movie and a good way to start the show.
