Description Full Title: Three Matt Hoverman Episodes That Make Me Excited For RoboGobo

Hello there. This is SofiaBlythe2014. Next year, we're getting a new Disney Junior show called RoboGobo. The series is created Chris Gilligan and Matt Hoverman, and is made in collaboration between Brown Bag Films and Disney Television Animation. The show was announced last year at Disney Junior Fun Fest. Here's the description:

"The colorful show features five adorable pets without a home — until kid inventor Dax adopts them and gives them super-powered Robo-Suits. Now Hopper, Booster, Allie, Shelly, and Wingo are a team of superheroes saving other pets in trouble and learning how to become a family in the process."

The more I think about it, the more I anticipate it. It's mainly due to Matt's involvement with the show. He just has this magic touch that helps elevate something to new heights. Even with stories that are typical, he makes the effort to make them feel unique. Today, I'm going to talk about 3 episodes he wrote from different shows that make me confident that he could carry that same kind of quality over to RoboGobo. When it comes to Disney Junior, I think many of their strongest shows from 2012 onward are produced by either Disney Television Animation or Brown Bag Films (though shows from other companies are also solid too). Having them both collaborate on this show seems like a match made in heaven. Anyway, let's begin.

1. Princess Jade (Sofia The First)

My first entry is for the Sofia The First episode "Princess Jade". The main plot is about Jade attending Royal Prep for the day and finding out that she's seemingly descended from royalty. She becomes conflicted since she doesn't want to leave the village yet still wants to stay friends with Social. The subplot has Amber going to school in the village for the day, but she struggles quite a bit. One thing I like is how it shows good development on Jade's end. Something I noticed with some of her appearances in the first 2 seasons is how, though often cheerful, she can show quite the fiery temper. This is mainly when it seems like Sofia is choosing royalty over her roots in the village, like in "The Big Sleepover" and "A Tale Of Two Teams". Here, with Sofia being excited over the idea of them possibly going to the same school together, she actually shows worry. She doesn't try to bottle up any angry feelings. She instead tries to hide her insecurity and how she doesn't want to lose any of her friends from both worlds. She's actually quite sympathetic. The subplot with Amber is also well done. While not really doing well with more hands on work, she actually shows self doubt since she doesn't want to do anything wrong. This is mainly in showing her season 4 development, and how she's become more mindful and less selfish. She wants to be able to apply herself more and is afraid of failing, which is a natural evolution of how she likes to be the best at everything. Things do eventually get better when Jade finds out she's not descended from royalty and can keep her friends. As for Amber, she manages to work hard in woodshop class and even doesn't mind when she rips her gown. Even though Matt joined the show in season 4, this episode showed how much he respected what the show established and built on it.

2. Nancy Clancy Showstopper (Fancy Nancy)

My second entry is for the Fancy Nancy episode "Nancy Clancy Showstopper". The episode is about Nancy helping Lionel put on a comedy show. However, she inadvertently ignores how he feels when she focuses on making the show as spectacular as can be. In my article on favorite Fancy Nancy writers, I said how he's my favorite writer on the show. It's mainly in how he goes above and beyond to make just about anything feel like an event and really knows how to tap into human emotions. This episode really exemplifies the best of what his episodes have to offer, showstopping music, Nancy being a flawed yet aspirational character, and letting character moments drive any conflict. We see the process of how Nancy keeps going for something bigger yet still wants to make Lionel happy. She's just too focused on the spectacle. This episode also shows that while Lionel is a goof, he can also show a very broad range of emotions from insecurity to anger. The apology to the audience at the end feels pretty real because of how she focuses more on the right thing and not about looking good. This is a season 1 episode, and he helped the show find its footing with episodes like this. I think he can help make RoboGobo stand out from other preschool action shows.

3. Hubcap Heist (Firebuds)

My final entry is for the Firebuds episode "Hubcap Heist ". He's the story editor for the series, yet this is the only episode he wrote. Despite this, I think it shows how well he could do when in a bigger position of power. It's about The Firebuds trying to stop Wayne Riley and Wiley Riley from stealing some precious art from the museum. The episode manages to do quite a lot of world building in just 11 minutes while still giving a reasonable conflict to Bo. We see things like the Motopolis Automotive Museum Of Art and the fact that Jayden's mother is a police officer, which makes the world of the show feel more alive. We also get a solid conflict for Bo in how he should learn to adapt when things don't go as planned, which fits with how he likes to stick to one plan when he's confident about things working out in a certain way. We also get the introduction to antagonists Wayne Riley and Wiley Riley, who are fun to watch in how they're a duo yet also have distinguishable personalities (such as Wayne being an egotistical inventor and Wiley being very stealthy and overconfident in how she's good with strategy). It all comes together well, and I know he can do well in making RoboGobo feel pretty big.
