Description
Papyrus walked slowly around the dark hallways of the laboratory. The silence was overbearing the space, the darkness of the place always seemed to make him anxious while the tall skeleton fixed his glasses with anxiety. He hated being in the lab. It was too dark and quiet. What types of things did his brother even do down here? It was certainly something he couldn’t understand, for he was not smart enough to get anything half of the time. At least, that was always what his brother and only family left had always told him. His brother, Comic Sans, was a genius. The royal scientist, while he was just his brother. It was all he was known to be apart from a “coward”.
He held his hands together with an increasing fear that he refused to acknowledge, he didn’t need to be any less of a coward than he already was. His brother called him down here to “discuss something important”. He didn’t want to admit it, but he was terrified of his brother’s experiments. Every single idea he had was horrible, not even to mention the increase of LOVE from part of his brother. Whatever it matter that was important couldn’t be any good.
He stood before the door of his brother’s office, he swallowed hard before opening the door. The door made a high screeching noise before Papyrus entered quietly into the room. The desk had a familiar yet not pleasant smell to it. His short twin had his back turned against his brother, and it was then that Papyrus realized something.
“SANS, ARE YOU SMOKING?” Sans turned to see his brother because of the “loud and obnoxious” (or as he called it: annoying and stressing) voice of his. He had indeed a cigarette on his right hand while his left one was resting on the desk.
“yes, so? it doesn’t do any harm to us skeletons.” He said in a tone that indicated that he was slightly pissed. Papyrus clenched his hands tightly as he looked away. “you’re wondering why i called you, right?”
“Y-YES…” Sans threw the cigarette away and stomped it into the floor as he got closer to his brother.
“i need your help, papyrus.” Papyrus turned to look at him with a confused look. “it isn’t anything of science or anything that requires knowledge. I just need you to get me what i need, at least you’ll be a little helpful for once.”
“WHAT… IS IT?” He said, ignoring the offensive comment of his brother.
“i have made a theory that would make it possible to-“ Sans stopped for a second before rubbing the temples of his face. “of course… you wouldn’t be able to understand it even if you tried.” He said in an annoyed tone. “sometimes i forget how dumb you can be.” He murmured under his breath. Papyrus was able to hear it.
“i’m going to need a material to make an artificial soul, so i need your help to get this material.” It took a couple of seconds for Papyrus to realize what was Sans asking him to do.
“BUT- I- YOU DO NOT MEAN… HOW ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET THIS MATERIAL??” His brother’s expression didn’t give away anything. Sans turned around and signaled Papyrus to follow him. On the desk there were several papers.
“papyrus, do you know what is the definition of souls?”
“THEY ARE WHAT MAKES US CORPOREAL…”
“yes, they’re the culmination of our beings. i know your concerns about how to get this material, since any chance of taking it out of a normal monster is going to kill them and turn them into nothing but dust.” Papyrus tensed at the mention of death. “but here’s the thing, we are not normal. at least our body isn’t to any other’s body. our bodies can be attached or detached without any difficulties.”
“… WHAT ARE YOU SUGGESTING?”
“what i am trying to convey is that i want a piece of your bone. since it’s not going to be any painful, you can give me a finger. that’s all i need.” Silence overcame the office, Papyrus had no comment.
“WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THIS?”
“i hope to be able to use this non-sentient being to be able to study and experiment the features and limitations of the souls. it isn’t going to be a solution to break the barrier, but it is going to be my tool to help me break it.” Papyrus frowned.
“BUT IF WE ARE GOING TO MAKE A SOUL, IS IT NOT GOING TO BE A MONSTER? OR- OR EVEN A…” Papyrus beamed at his sudden realization. “SKELETON! WE CAN MAKE ANOTHER SKELETON, SANS! WOULDN’T YOU WANT THAT?”
“no, papyrus, no.” He said sternly. “this is my only chance to break the barrier, to save asgore, to get revenge.”
“BUT- BUT THIS IS OUR CHANCE TO M-MAKE ANOTHER SKELETON, WE CAN EXPAND OUR RACE, WE CAN HAVE MORE OF A FAMILY, SANS!”
“then you should’ve FOUGHT and SAVE someone of our village when YOU had the chance!!!”
Sans became silent. Papyrus became silent. Everything was silent except for the slight rattling from the taller skeleton. Tears fell down Papyrus’ face while his eyes were glowing a mixture of purple and yellow.
Oh no…
He held his brother’s shoulders while glowing back at him. His left eye glowed a powerful blue. He messed up again, his brother was too sensitive and delicate.(especially about this topic in specific.)
“come on, paps… i didn’t mean it, you know it, right?” He held his brother close. “you trust me, right? i’ll never hurt anyone, i promise… i just need your help on this one thing and that’s it.”
“I… OKAY…” He said wiping his tears off his face. He detached his pinky finger from his right hand, and gave it to his brother.
“thank you, bro.”
“YOU ARE WELCOME…”
As always, he obliged to his brother. He always followed an experiment of his brother’s until the very end, just like every single one of them. This wasn’t an exception. He obliged to his brother’s request. Like he always did. Never stepping up. Never. Just watching the massacres happening right in front of him, without saying a word.
What a fucking coward.

Dr. Gaster walked through New Home while he saw the familiar scenery. The same houses. The same place over and over, lifeless and dull. While he walked he couldn’t help but strive for anxiety.
How did the human find out? Did they just did that while he was asleep? But how? He locked the door, he was sure. The human was very peculiar, no doubt about it. Nothing he could do either way.
He entered the throne room, to see he was welcomed by the golden flowers and his king. The countless flowers glowing the sunshine light coming from above gave a pleasing and calming tone.
“Good afternoon, your majesty.” He spoke while signing with his magic hands.
“Oh, please don’t call me ‘your majesty’, Gaster.” Gaster sat down at the gray table. “You’re my dear friend, there’s no need for such formality.” King Asgore smiled softly while pouring out tea for the scientist.
“I’m sorry, sire.” Asgore stared at his friend with a not surprised look. He poured tea for himself before sitting down on his own chair.
“Tell me, Gaster, how have you been in Snowdin?” He implied while Gaster took a sip from his cup. It was steaming hot but delightful.
“It has been going quite well.” He said before grabbing a biscuit, noticing the smiley face that the cookie had. “Oh, what’s the occasion?”
“It was nothing.” The king said smiling. “I’ve just noticed you’ve been very busy with work, so I thought to give you these cookies.”
“That’s…” Gaster couldn’t help but to smile lightly while he felt his cheekbones warm up. “Very thoughtful, I appreciate it.”
“And it’s also to remind you to take a break every now and then…” He stopped smiling to look at Gaster. “You are overworking yourself, it isn’t healthy.”
“I’m not. I’m fine, really.” The king looked unconvinced.
“Did you have your breakfast?”
“Yes.”
“What was it?”
“Delicious- I mean-“ Asgore raised an eyebrow. “Fruit, I had fruit.”
“Did you have your lunch?”
“I… well…” His magic hands popped out of existence. He darted his gaze somewhere else, he couldn’t bring himself to lie to his king. He couldn’t lie to the man who took care of him, and he shouldn’t either. Everything fell silent. The skeleton heard a tired sigh, he did not dare to look forward.
“Gaster…” He rested a hand on his face, why couldn’t Gaster just take care of himself? Was it that difficult? “You’re far more important than your responsibilities or work. You shouldn’t put the necessities of other’s before yours. Please, I’m worried about you. When has been the last time you slept properly?”
He was met with nothing but silence. The scientist felt ashamed about worrying the king, when the king could just attend far more important matters.
“I’m going to ask you to do me a favor, for me and for yourself.” Gaster nodded silently. “Please take this week off and rest.” The skeleton wanted to protest against that but was interrupted before doing so. “I’ll make Dr. Alphys a notice on that, I’m sure she’ll understand. Secondly, please have a good rest. Finally, try to eat a healthier diet, your health is first, Gaster. If you feel like you can’t take of yourself for any reason, I can help, just please…”
“Please let others help you… no one is asking to do this much, you’re important too.”
“…” Gaster stayed silent for a few seconds before looking up at Asgore. His magic hands appeared in the air once again. “… okay, your majesty.”
King Asgore smiled softly at the response.
“Thank you, Gaster. I can’t afford to lose you, you’re almost like my son.” The skeleton froze at the word “son”. “If you want you can stay at my home to have dinner before returning to your house. How does that sound?”
“It sounds good, your majesty.”
“Call me ‘Asgore’.”
“… it sounds good, Asgore.”
He couldn’t disobey the king’s commands. He was the king and it would be not loyal to do so. The king was merciful, very kind and was very caring. He wouldn’t be able to disobey him. It would make Asgore sad, disappointed, even angry. (The king wasn’t going to become angry, he was a kind person with a very gentle soul.) So that’s why he couldn’t deny the commands, right?
Right?
