I'm a dancer and I smoke!! Never put a fag out with my point shoe before though, the picture is absolutley amazing, the innocence of ballet mixed with horrors of smoking, it's really striking.

here's a story for you...
ever since i was i was 8 i wanted to take ballet.
10 years later i start taking classes on my own (i was pretty good too)
when i started doing photography... obviously pointe shoes are very pretty.
so i went on ebay and started buying old used pointe shoes
*i have yet to do something with them that i really like*
of course i have my own shoes, the brand i like and all, that fit me... for modelling... but no one ever wants me to model ballet for them
i'm done now.

there is a dark side to everyone.
even the perfect and most beautiful ballet dancer.
i also like how everything is not perfect, but there is a lot of dirt and "darkness" in the image. it helps go along with whole dark theme of smoking.

Very creative! Although I think you could have focused a bit more on the cigarette since it is the main concept of the photo. I might have put some more ashes or something around the slipper to further the concept. But well deserving of all the favorites!

I'm horrible at giving critique, but I could not give you bad critique for this shot. Feminine, yet grungy. The idea of it is almost contradicting in traditional sense.
The beautiful shot and the skin makes it perfect. You can see every bone 'neath her skin. The background is on the street so it gives you an idea of a little girl (Who doesn't dream of being a ballet dancer when they're younger) making her descent into a adult world where she still holds on to the little girl core.
I realize I just rambled, but I hop you don't mind my interpretation. I love this picture!

THe balance is appealing, and the way the foot send your eye down to see the cigarette gives a great direction...
I almost feel as if she has had a rough day practicing her dance, then she went out for a cigarette to show how hard her day has been, and now it's time to go back for more...

I love the soft lines of the foot and the fact that the shoe is a little dirty. It's femine, yet grungy. She's on the street, so that adds a lot to setting for the cigarette.
I really like thise concept and I think you executed it well. The desaturation of color really works here!
