Like the vector. By the way, it inspired me to write a omake of sorts, based on this.
=====
Shining Armour was ever a present reminder of her greatest failure in the Canterlot Wedding. She could barely even stand his presence in the Hive Palace throne room, and were it not for the Equestrian's envoy's insistence that he come along to be received with them in their audience with the queen she would had locked him out in a cacoon.
And now the irritation felt it appropriate to interrupt her.
"You want what in my what?!" Queen Chrysalis snapped at the unicorn, when Shining Armour suddenly spoke.
"I said," Shining Armour growled, murderously, "I want to put some LEAD in your SKULL!"
In an instant Shining Armour's horn flashed, and from a hidden holster of his armor his telekinetic aura drew his weapon out of his belt. But it wasn't a sword; it was a Colt revolver, .44 Magnum, double-action. One shot is a guarantee to ruin anypony's day.
Time seemed to slow to a crawl. Chrysalis' palace royal praetorian guards pounced towards the unicorn the moment he drew his weapon. The pony diplomats that Shining Armour accompanied, and whom the queen was receiving, dropped their proposals and only managed to gasp in shock and horror as Shining Armour aimed down the revolver's sights.
Queen Chrysalis would normally be more than able to defend herself - after all, in the heartless, decadent court of Hive Tyrants, Drone Lords and Hive Matrons that formed the feudal heart of the Changeling Empire, where schemes and plots run wide and far like wildfire, if one could not be vigilant, properly paranoid and prepared to defend one's position from ruthless userpers and power-hungry pretenders, then you deserved to be swept aside for the more worthy, capable replacement. She had lost count how many times she had defeated assassins and rebels that had tried to kill her, calmly and smugly sweeping them away with carefully prepared defense and powerful magic she wield, fed by power from her subjects.
But something happened before Shining Armour's last words left his throat. Something that made her lost her nerve, and drew back instead.
She saw the stallion's stare was a death-glare. Through her senses, she saw what radiated from the depths of his heart: Hatred, a cold, calculated hatred, so pure, so cold, not even the Windigoes' icy breath are a worthy comparison.
While to a normal creature it wouldn't had been anything special, to a species of emotion-eaters like the rest of her Changeling subjects, the sudden rush of such powerful feelings, exploding out of Shining, was like detonation of a grenade. The blast through the empathetic ether took her by surprise, sent pain through every cell of her body, and incapacitated her mind, and with it her magic, if only for a moment.
Shining Armour knew after what he probably wouldn't make it out alive, not after what he was about to do. But if he succeeded... the pain that had consumed him will finally be sated, and his loved ones - Twilight, Cadence, father and mother, will never be hurt by a monster like the Changeling Queen again.
The queen was in his sights. He saw the confusion on the queen change to horror, and her hesitation.
And a moment of vulnerability was all Shining Armour ever need.
He pulled the trigger. The hammer came down. The muzzle flashed.
There was a crack of thunder.

And also... a crunch and a clink as said bullet hit the ground in front of a Kyrptonian fox. "Enough of this senseless fighting!" he yelled. "I do not wish for any more blood to be spilled! This needless violence will only injure both parties in the long run! Now can we get all of our heads put on straight and try to make peace here?!"
Despite the power of said shot, the bullet did nothing more than crunch on itself. It was naught more then a crushed disc now.
The fox then looked at Shining Armor. "Yes, I was there when Canterlot was attacked. I saw friends of mine locked in cocoons. It may have hurt deep inside. But I am willing to forgive Queen Chrysalis of her actions in the past and look to a brighter future. However, I must say that attempting to kill her is just as bad as, if not worse than, the attack."
He then turned towards the Queen. "And you. While I have no qualms about saying that what you did was wrong, I understand why you did it. You were looking for food for your subjects, if only to keep them alive. You were coerced to do something to ensure the safety of your subjects. That is what separates a great leader from a powerful creature - the ability to feel empathy and hear all voices, and choose what is best for the kingdom."
He then placed his hands on both Queen Chrysalis's head and Shining Armor's. "Now I really do not appreciate this unnecessary violence, so let's just get our heads on straight," he said while confiscating the revolver, "act like mature adults," he commented while putting horn collars on both Shining Armor and Queen Chrysalis, "and come to a peaceful solution."

Despite the point-blank shot and the admittedly ridiculous power of the .44 round, Chrysalis' head did not explode into chunks of gore. The bullet that ended the dark queen's life was an armor-piercing, meant to penetrate her thick chitin.
So, the round zipped through her, rending and tearing its way through chitin, then flesh, then skull, and finally brain--neat, quick and (relatively speaking) clean.
Chrysalis' body slumped to the ground lifelessly.
Into the stunned silence that followed, one of the praetorian guards spoke up.
"So...now what?"

A minute or so later, a dozen more Changeling soldiers burst into the chamber, having heard the gunshot. Leading them was a Changeling Alpha, and Chancellor Centipede, who had been running late to the diplomatic audience due to paperwork concerning a worker-uprising in the southern minor hives.
"What happened?! Where's her highness? Had she been secured - " Centipede demanded, only to stop mid-sentence.
His question had already been answered, in the form of her majesty's body, a cooling Changeling corpse laying upon the throne chamber ground. Beneath the gaping, ichor dripping bullet hole above her head, Queen Chrysalis' stilted eyes stared into oblivion.
"Oh no..." That was all the loyal servant of the Queen could only gasp.
The other Changeling soldiers behind him did the same, their normally vicious demeanor broken and replaced by shock, incomprehension, and horror. They were soldiers of her Majesty's personal War-Swarm, bred to fight and die for her highness, taught to believe to their ruler was infallible. But there was no denying what was in front of them - Her majesty Queen Chrysalis, of the Ruling Hive of Vespa, the only child of the late King Carapace III, regent for over five centuries, was dead. Dead by assassination they all had failed to prevent.
They all promptly turned their attention to the said assassin.
Shining Armour was on the ground, pinned by a dozen Changeling praetorians, and struggling furiously to break their hold on him despite his strength. On his left they could see his discarded weapon, on his right, the stunned Equestrian diplomats stared dumbly at the scene, still struggling to understand what happened.
Somehow, the Chancellor managed to quickly regain his (metaphoric) nerves.
"Well, don't just stand there!" He shouted at the retinue of troops behind them, breaking them out of their stupor as well, "Secure the chamber and the Queen! Get us the palace physicians NOW!"
"And also" He turned his gaze to the foreign envoy of ponies, "Detain the rest of the envoy."
"Wait! Your Chancellorship, we assure you that the Equestrian government have nothing to do with this!" One of the ponies gasped out, hoping the slate the growing anger and hate from the Changelings now surrounding them. She whimpered as Chancellor Centipede pressed his face towards her's.
"Do you take me for a fool?" He asked dangerously, "Give me one reason not to believe that this whole diplomatic meeting was arranged just so that you cattle can take revenge for the... βincidentβ in your capital."
"This is not the way of our Princesses or our kinds!" the other diplomat, a stallion, defended her colleague, "We wouldn't had tried. We wouldn't have even dared consider it. This was entirely by Captain Shining Armourβs own initiative."
Chancellor Centipede didn't want to believe him. But through the empathetic ether, he could sense their fear, their confusion, and their panic. Years of serving the queen in the court and dealing with the nest of vipers and jackals that it was, and his own knowledge of the ponies, had given him the insight to determine that there really was no ulterior motive hidden beneath their words. And even then, heβs not willing to risk infringing their diplomatic immunity getting the truth out of them.
βIβll take your word for it.β He said, seething. He motioned the Changeling Alpha to attention βTake them all away. Have the assassin imprisoned in the high-security cocoons of the dungeon, and arrange a time for interrogation. Place the rest of the envoy under room arrest and do not harm them.β
Shining Armour was hauled to his hooves, beaten, bleeding and restrained. His expression remained defiant. One of the diplomats dared to speak up to him, βCaptain, why?β
βItβs... itβs the only way.β He rasped out. Centipede and the other Changelings could feel the sheer anger and HATE radiating from him. βDid you naive fools really think your efforts will convince that queen of monsters to not attack Equestria again?β He chuckled bitterly, βShe and her Changelings had never stopped trying to destroy us ever since they appeared. They will never stop until they overrun Equestria... overrun the entire world, turn us and everyone we love to cattle for harvest... destroying everything we hold dear. Itβs the only way to stop her... sheβll never hurt us againβ He was grinning, and Centipede could see a hint of madness in his eyes, βNever again... never again...β
βAnd you think her replacement is going to be any better?!β The mare diplomat screamed out in outrage.
βEnough! Keep moving!β A Changeling praetorian shouted.
The ponies left just as the physicians arrived. They went straight to the queen, not that it would make anything other than confirm the obvious. Some of the Changelings were weeping.
Centipede shook his head grimly as they draped a cover over Queen Chrysalis, the words of the mare diplomat circling his head. She was right β her replacement would definitely not be any better. Chrysalis have never sired a successor, or appointed anyling in the hive to serve as it. Even though now he was now the most powerful Changeling in the hives, he knew his own role and position would be temporary, under the laws and circumstances. Once the news gets out itβll only be a matter of time before the other Changeling Hive lords and matrons of the other hives began to position themselves to seize the throne. None of them are willing to share, and when it happens, all Tartarus would break loose.
The twilight of the Changeling Empire is near, and he wondered how ponies of Equestria would react to this, and what is to come...
(I really should be working right, but I couldn't resist.)

*A few Hours Later, in Canterlot*
"He. Did. What?" Cadence growled, a slight shudder rocking her frame. From across the room Luna shot her a concerned look, then turned her attention back to the messenger she'd been speaking with.
The Royal Guard Sergeant standing before Cadence fought to keep from flinching back from the pink alicorn. He had only seen the Princess a few times, and spoken with her even less, but the look of rage on her face still looked utterly... wrong for her. Composing himself, he answered, "Er, Your Highness, Captain Armor killed Queen Chrysalis. ...In her own Hive. ...While accompanying our diplomats." He flinched a bit, but managed to hide it. "Intel is scarce, but we believe that Captain Armor has been taken prisoner by the Changelings, along with our diplomats."
Cadence let out a long, deep sigh. "Thank you for the clarification, Sergeant," she ground out, visibly trying to compose herself. After a short pause, she spoke again in a more even tone. "Is there any way to be sure...what happened to him? To Shining?"
The Sergeant winced. "No, Your Highness; not yet at least," he added, hastily. "We only got news of the...incident from a Changeling messenger." He paused, seeming unsure of what to say next.
It was then that Luna broke in, trotting toward the pair over the red carpet. "And we are lucky to get even that," the night goddess commented. Her deep blue eyes had a faraway look, as if she was only half-thinking about the present.
What...what do you mean?" Cadence asked, fearful.
Luna turned her gaze to the balcony, where her moon and stars were shining down on Equestria below. "My messenger has just told me of an uprising in one of the Vassal-Hives under the late Queen's control. When news of her demise reached them, they took advantage of the chaos..." Luna turned her gaze back to Cadence and the Guard. "...and seceded."
Silence. The Guard looked gobsmacked, almost as if he would never thing a Changeling Hive would ever secede from Chrysalis' dominion.
Cadence was also shocked, but there was a faint glimmer of hope in her pink eyes. Maybe there was still a chance Shining was okay!
Luna, however...looked strangely dejected. "There is other news, regarding these...rebels." She looked out the window again, a flash of anger contorting her face. "It seems that a legion of Changelings still loyal to Chrysalis is on the march to crush the rebellion, but said rebels have found some unexpected allies nearby."
Cadence gasped. "You...you don't mean--"
Luna flicked her gaze back to Cadence. "I do. Some of Equestria's own soldiers, garrisoned nearby, have come to the aid of the rebellious Changelings. Of their own initiative. Without Royal orders."
The Changeling Empire was in its death throes; its centuries-old order was being torn apart from within and without. Some would fight for freedom from centuries of oppression, others would rise up for selfish and dark reasons--and some would seek, and receive, help in their struggles from the most unlikely of allies.
What ever their causes and justifications, all the dissidents and rebels would be one more nail in the coffin for the Changeling Empire.
