Description Emma and Emily pose for an action shot after base camp is established and gear stowed. Jolly, Lexie and Kimmie stand ready to react in the background. Julia and Ellie take pictures and upload them to the team's public channel, testing their bandwidth limits in this remote part of the alien complex.

Daz 4.11 with iRay. Wafer-thin DOF settings in camera. Bloom ON. The render was a four-hour affair that resulted in one of the noisiest "completed" renders I've ever seen. It was essentially the same at 4hrs as it was at one. So! Topaz De-Noiser was drafted in for another 30-day trial. But the noise was too much even for this heavy-hitter. So then I took the de-noised image into photoshop, created a duplicate of the whole layer and applied a Gaussian blur, then erased the two girls in the foreground to reveal the sharp parts of the image. Voila! More or less. Additional LUT work in Photoshop for levels and colour.

So much talent with lights! well done sir! i wish i could reach that level of realism! love the reflect!

About noise, i've recently found a preset that is pretty great, playing with rendering converged ratio to 98% (rendering quality to 1) and nominal luminance to 100, hope this could help

Anyway, you have reached a wonderfull result with you way

My favourites btw - Emma and Emily are looking gorgeous. I like Star Trek therefore I appreciate your homage with your setting and the uniforms and such. I am afraid of the girlsΒ΄fate but I canΒ΄t wait till you continue this story. But take your time my friend, in German we have a say - anticipation is the greatest pleasure

"testing bandwidth" as excuse for provocative selfies. Ha, ha!

(thanks for the tip on DOF simulation!)

Yes! In the future, provocative selfies are essentially lingua franca.
And you're very welcome! Lazy workarounds are kind of my forte.

As far as the noise, have you tried a ray-tracing specific denoiser that can accept an albedo pass?

Topaz is trained for photo denoising, I believe, and the specifics of ray-tracing noise are quite different.

I'm quite a fan of the Intel OI Denoiser for the purpose (although I prefer the results of the 0.8.1 version to the newer versions).

Daz Studio won't get Iray to chuck out a proper albedo pass by default, but it is possible to use a custom 3DL shader to render one in a separate pass - which is usually very quick, as you're not rendering any SSS, raytracing, etc. With the extra information from the additional canvases (which is something a photo denoiser is unlikely to accept), the denoisers are pretty impressive at cleaning up renders.
