Description Ah, another gunblade. This is also for my friend Dylan (for whom I made the Brotherhood sword), since...well, I offered to make him a gunblade.

The blade, though not clearly related, was inspired by the Brotherhood (something I felt was a good idea since he loves the Brotherhood so much). I usually leave names to the people I make the weapons for, but I got his permission to name this beforehand; this would be because, since I was giving it an almost all-around dark color scheme, I wanted to call it "Shadow".

The chamber was a bit of a pain to work on... I couldn't find what I considered a good reference for shading it, and I found out IN THAT PROCESS, that I got the positioning of the chamber slots "wrong"; looking back on it it doesn't seem all that terrible in terms of continuity, but still. (For those who are interested, this is what I referenced for the majority of my reference shading: [link] ) As I was saying though, the shading took a bit of a toll, and it was kind of done by ear.

Omg, I can't count HOW many times PhotoImpression died or glitched on me while working on this. It can be pretty unreliable like that, for some sad reason. =/ But hey, it gets the job done BD and that is one nice-looking blade in my opinion. I'd like to have been able to add more depth to the central junction part of the weapon (holding the chamber, trigger, etc), but I just don't think I'm that talented yet.

Also! I'm going to be submitting this picture to 's Final Fantasy VIII 10th Anniversary Art Jam . Hoping she'll accept it. X3

this blade is amazing now a fighting style that would be good would be to utalize the hollow and the vibration say the opponent slashed at you you could use the hollow to capture the blade and pull the trigger to vibrate the sword to shatter the enemy blade also unlike most gunblades which have to change directions for another slash since this one is double edged you could come out of one attack only to come right into another i will say though instead of a two handed handle you should have used a hand and a half it makes a sword like this easier to use in one or two hands all in all though i give a nine point five out of ten

I do have one question about this gunblade... where the hell is the barrel? XD

XD.... Well, this sort of question keeps coming up about gunblades. I did this on a previous comment, but allow me to quote some comments from a previous deviation of mine:

[sub]'Which reminds me: I neglected to ever say in my first gunblade deviation that gunblades do not actually shoot projectiles; that's probably because I wanted to avoid giving everyone a weaponry lesson, but what the heck -- I'll do it now.

Gunblades are a type of melee combat weapon which house rounds (bullets). When slashing an enemy, the wielder is to pull the trigger with proper timing, which sets off a round and sends a shock wave through the blade, which will maximize damage. The timing needs to be precise, which is why becoming a gunblade "specialist" or "master" is difficult.'[/sub]

So you see, they're not meant to actually shoot projectiles; just blast powder. Now, to be fair, upon explaining this to my dad one time, he explained to me that with no opening to release the energy from the round going off, the weapon would explode, rendering this type of weapon impossible -- still though, I like to believe that they're still plausible within their own reality

Ohhhhh! I see now, well actually I can help prove your theory of the explosions coming from each slash! If the blade edge was a very strong, but hollow metal, each explosion could actually cause a high-pitch vibration to go through the blade, giving it a massive upgrade in cutting power. plus you add on the searing-hot heat from each shot, makes the blade edge vibrate, and heat up, thus making the cut seem like someone just cut something with a flaming matchstick

Well, I just asked my dad what would happen if a .45 caliber shell were ignited into a big/thick hollow sword, and he had a bit to say about it, but the highlights were basically: the force would probably be pushed back out the gun part because that's where it's open (and referenced how at least most semi-automatic weapons reload the chamber by the force of a shot pushing back on a (very tight) mechanism that forces the next bullet in a clip to enter the chamber), and that otherwise it would probably create a hole in the weakest part of the sword to exit; and that it wouldn't do anything for the blade of the sword, and it would probably only burn the user's hands. I'm tempted to believe him since he's got a fair amount of knowledge in the area XP

Still though, it doesn't hurt to dream I'll just keep playing the games and using my imagination XP

Lol, you're lucky your dad is a gun mechanics genius! I wish my dad was that fluent with the way a gun works, it's hard coming up with a gun design when you have no clue what does what XD

Lol, well actually I think he has a degree in physics, and he was also in the Navy for a while which could explain his knowledge on firearms; or maybe he knows for some other reason XP As for guns, I usually try to draw replicas -- when I was in grade school, I had a habit of drawing Colt .45s and M-16s in notebooks and on assignments XP I prefer swords now though, and some other forms of melee weaponry--but mostly swords But like my interest in swords, when it comes to guns, I'm not above replacing practicality or realism for something that looks cool

Not bullets, no... but gunblades from Final Fantasy 8 were never supposed to, as I mentioned to someone in a previous post. I'm sad though that FF13 categorized a weapon as a gunblade when it can take the forms of both a sword and a gun; that really seems to defeat the original purpose. >.>

Sorry for the late reply, by the way.

Because it contains shells that, while they don't fire bullet heads, will still cause burst that sends a vibration through the blade, which, if timed correctly, increases the damage done to the enemy. That's the official explanation of gunblades, anyway, so don't ask me how it makes sense physically. XP

Love the design, but this can't shoot.
So unfortunately, this is technically not a gunblade.
But one hell of a good sword that holds ammo for your real gun.

Well ^-^; I'm gonna have to cite my comments on my last gunblade for this one:

' Which reminds me: I neglected to ever say in my first gunblade deviation that gunblades do not actually shoot projectiles; that's probably because I wanted to avoid giving everyone a weaponry lesson, but what the heck -- I'll do it now.

Gunblades are a type of melee combat weapon which house rounds (bullets). When slashing an enemy, the wielder is to pull the trigger with proper timing, which sets off a round and sends a shock wave through the blade, which will maximize damage. The timing needs to be precise, which is why becoming a gunblade "specialist" or "master" is difficult. '

So by FF8 standards, it is a gunblade I'm very happy you like the design though, and thanks for the comment!

Sorry, had this same conversation with someone else and they said the same thing. I don't know why SquareEnix had to complicate things so much, just make the damn thing shoot is all.

But anyway its just one of those things. Just gotta let it go I guess. I should upload something soon.

Put that in somebody and pull the trigger...ouch

lol

Also, duo-edged make for a possibly unique fighting style that would catch opponents off guard

I don't know how the mechanics of a fighting style based around this weapon design would go, and I leave those details up to whomever decides to make one. However, I suppose I could use it for some character in a story *if I ever write one again*. Ah well, whatever works I guess
