The layer compositing of this is a little weird; the outlines of the colored shadow on lower left, and the crowd looks just a *little* bit skewed; but overall the image layout and design itself is very good

It's a technique called photobashing. Artists use photos and layer them with digital painting and manipulations to blend into a new image.

I admire your technique. It's clear that you use a lot of stock, but it's used to beautiful effect.

By 'a lot of stock', I'm guessing you mean photos are used?
I've been trying to discern whether this is piece and others are photobashed... sometimes it'sΒ difficult for me to tell if it's not outright admitted.
Especially so when plenty of photobashed concepts/pieces are categorized as paintings rather than photo manipulations.

Trust your eyes. In this case, look closely at the faces and clothes in the crowd.
There are some fine details in there, completely real. The artist certainly didn't spend all that time making random bits photorealistic only to scribble random shapes for the rest of it!
Photos also tend to have a granular quality and can be obvious when compared to the broader digital brushstrokes.
But yes, it's not always easy to tell. It used to bother me though now I'm not so sure it matters. But it would be more honest to put it in 'mixed media' eh.

Yes, I figured it was photobashed after my own dabbling in photobashing.
I still wish all photobashed pieces would be in either mixed media or photomanipulation; even use of textures, I still consider mixed media/photomanipulation.
And, yeah, I zoomed in on the crowd and something didn't feel right, even most of the buildings.
Thanks for that advice.
P.S. To anyone reading this, not degrading the piece itself, it's in my favourites, just saying pieces should be categorized honestly/accurately for aspiring concept-artists who wouldn't know otherwise.
