Well in the game/show, I believe it's where 'The Deep Ones' were locked away from Perrim.
At the time of the drawing, the deep ones were not really described, more like an idea. The idea being that there was a race of creatures who dominated the surface races of Perrim. That It took all of those surface races banding together, combining Mugic and technology to beat them back. This doorway was where the last stand was made, where they succeeded in locking the Deep ones away. Ushering in a new age of freedom for the surface, The doors made as a warning for the future generations to heed.

For me the artist, what lies beyond the in the Deepmines are the things we lock away from ourselves, the statues surrounding the doors reminders of the dangers of crossing though places we really shouldn't go, yet they cannot be shut forever, once in awhile they will open. In that moment we need to stare it down, to stand up to that which we fear and deny in the darkest regions of our soul.
That and I thought this would make a fun drawing...heh.

...soo...in a way (comparing to World of Warcraft. if you dont play it sorry) the "deep ones" could be compared to the "faceless ones" of icecrown? demons in a sense.

I know the creator of Chaotic was heavily influenced by WoW. (yep I did play too!) So I wouldn't be surprised, if he picked up on that. I think the Deep ones turned out to be creatures you might find deep underwater, giant squid like things, huge crustaceans and the like. They also were attempting to alter the environment to make it more hospitable to themselves in order to conquer the world above. I'm not up on the current Warcraft story line but I'm sure it's similar, what can I say Blizzard is good!

Holy cow, I just now noticed the little silhouetted figures in the lower-right portion of the picture. Really gives you a sense of how massive these doors are.

Heh heh, yeah they are really hard to make out in the card itself, so being able to see it a bit larger helps with some of the finer details!
Thanks for the comment!
