Description
OK, it doesn't look like much, but this is the basic construct i use for all of my knots.sometims the grid is morphed slightly so that it fits the natural flow of the shape i am working in, but you get the idea.
Now for the interesting bit. Having set up this grid, I no longer have creative control over this piece, you do.
If you want to be part of this knot, simply check the comments below (set the filter to show newest first for best results). i will be requestiong new things as the knot progresses. Anyone who gives me input into the knot will be recognised at the bottom of this description, and the image will be updated to show your change.
Well, i think thats about it. i hope this works and lets have some fun!

Finally i have got the final shot up. don't loose heart tho, I will soon run another i think.
give me some time to recover from this one tho. got lotd of other projects to work on. they kinda lost out to this tho, so feel privilaged
also, keep a warey eye out for the "making of" movie, coming soon to a gallery near you (a.k.a... mine)

i apologise for the lateness of the update. i am working on the she shading, its just taking a little longer than expected.
it will come soon.

Okay, I think making all the cords kinda 3d, shade them so they look round. Where they intersect you could shade it so it looks like the top cord is pressing into the bottom one. Maybe even have them cast a shadow on the background, but that may be too much work.

they wew gonna have shading where they cross, but i'll see what i can do about making the chords rounded.
the shadows easy peasy

well...
the last colour has been chosen, thank you ~sempre-ventuno
i dont think theres much more to do. prehaps the only thing left is to choose a style for the chords of the knot.
I think this is how we shall do this: If i have a suggestion for the style, like making the inside of the corners curved or something, before the end of July, i will update the image with that on the 1st of August.
However if i have more than one suggestion, i will try to display them all on the knot on the 1st and open a poll so that ppl can vote for their favourite style.
If i don't recieve any styles, i will just add the final shading and leave it as is.
Dont forget i will be using these images in a flash tutorial soon.
So keep 'em peeled!

ok then. if this is a joint request you're gonna have to decide on which is the nicest green.
i'll try to find sone that match the colour scheme

The white background makes it very flat and stark, a creme or very light blue might help pull the whole thing forward and help ad depth over all.

Well done folks, we have got past phase one, but it isn't over yet.
At this point i usually put my pensil down, and go to get a cup of coffee or a cake, cos the pics doing my head in. So i invite you to do the same, and to come back refreshed for round two.
As you will notice, i have made some drastic changes since recieving the last coordinate.
I have changed the bends, so that they now look like curves, and have highlighted the different loops in different colours.
If you have browsed my gallery, you may have noticed knots with more than one chord following the same loop. To keep things simple, we will have all these as single chord loops. (Chord is just a fancy word for string, and is only used to make knotters feel superior to everyone else )
So waht i want next are 4 colours. I will need one colour for the chord currently in red, one for the green one and one for the blue. Also i would like someone to choose a background colour.
Dont forget to tell me which colour you are specifying. If you wat to give me a specific colour in hexidecimal that would be prefered, however i will accept just the name of a colour, and you can yell if its too light/dark

Solpyro In reply to squishdamish [2006-06-11 07:31:17 +0000 UTC]
im afraid thats no quite right. only one of your coordinates can be even
x5 y12, x6 y 11, x6 y13, x7, y12 are the closest four to your chosen position. the idea is to draw the line through a point where two diagonal lines intersect.
dont lose heart over this i'll be waitng for your revised input

Come on guys, i still need 6 more coordinates, so far we have had:
3, 6, h
9, 6, v
which you can see in the picture already. this is the most important part of knot building, its where the shaping actually occurs.
heres a reminder of the conditions for coordinates:
if x is even, y will have to be odd, and vice versa. also you wil have to specify whether you want the break to be vertical or horizontal.
thats great thanks.
i dont think im very creative either. in this stage of the process, i usually choose random lines.
although lately i have been getting better at recognising what my linse will do. guess its just experiance

Solpyro [2006-04-26 11:18:35 +0000 UTC]
OK, task one: i need 8 different sets of coordinates for breaks in the knot.
but they must be specific coordinates where there is a crossover between two lines. so if x is even, y will have to be odd, and vice versa. also you wil have to specify whether you want the break to be vertical or horizontal.
you can have more than one break in the same crossover, as long as there is one horizontal and one vertical. any duplicate coordinate will be ignored and credit will not be given, so please check the previous coordinates.
