I'm using Photoshop now, before that i was used to work with MS Paint but the layers make things much easier.
What transparency effect do you mean? There is just a transparent space around the raven sprite, I could also use just the color of the background instead.

Oh, just the use of it, I like how it goes between the feathers. It's so much cooler than a flat melt. Neat, that's actually what I use for transparency too. The layers are awesome but I just don't like the UI. I've taken to working on layers in paint and then pasting them into photoshop lol.
