Well here is Solace Vera. one of my orginal chracters for the manga I'm devising it's Sci/fi with mecha but I think fantasy fans will get a kick out of it too ^_^ well I'm still in the character design phase with the drawings but the story is coming together quite nicely -_- I think anywho building your own world with it's own rules is tough oh well It sure is fun. well he is inspired by some of my fav chracters from lots of different stories anime but everything about this drawing is orginal... (God inspired and helped of course^_^) ...eh if you don't count the katana. love his short sword. I'll be doing more drawings with that eventually but not going to say more just yet. anywho it is all pencil ,mechanical, and my sketch book. no photoshop not only don't have it yet but don't know how to use it (on drawings) -_- only another couple of weeks to go (I hope)

i like especially on this one his torso (well proportioned and shaped), and the arm position of the arm with the hand that's holding the short sword.. i like the foreshortening of it and what not, and of course, shading is awesome as usual

heh Thanx and thank God more importantnly. um how long it took? not really sure maybe a month or two if you count how long from when I started to when I finally was satisfied with it. but really it was a few hours only. my sketchs that I actually finish don't usually take long unless I want them perfected. in this case I wanted to do so but the pic isn't huge and the background didn't take much work. sigh I'll try harder on that next time. I just wanted to do Solace looking hard core ^_^ he's the bad guy in the story btw. so anyways I'll shut up now since you have much more info than you asked for -_- sorry

No need to apologize. I prefer when people give me lots of info rather than just exactly what I asked. 
I'm curious about your story now... is there anywhere it's posted?
The background fits, even if he wasn't placed in any sort of environment. It brings focus to the character and considering that's what you were presenting, it's perfect that way. Maybe now that his character is established, you can place him in his domain or lair or whatever.
Backgrounds are exceptionally difficult for me to put in. I'm definitely the sort of person who has to draw the background separately and then place characters in them like a cel, hence why my characters either get CG backgrounds or nothing at all.

Actually, I know how you feel, so I won't pressure you for info. I have a certain story that started as a manga and even though I'm not drawing manga currently, I can't get the thing out in writing. On the other hand, most of my written stories are difficult to put in a manga. I have another story intended for manga as well that's got several written pages of background information in notebooks and computer files, but I'd never try to write it. I just thought I was the only one like that, but apparently I'm not. Well, when you decide to start your manga, link me up and I'll be happy to read.
