Well, I found it in a bag of leather offcuts in a fabric shop. The whole bag cost £2.50 and there were about 20 scraps that were big enough to cover books in 5 colours. I don't know if that was a lucky find or if most stores do that. You could also look for upholstery samples or glovers leather if you don't want to spend lots of money on hides.
