I thought about this later, once I started working on a Ferengi one, but some of what's written might just be Romulan's version of events. This was going to suggest that other races aren't so thrilled about what the Romulans have been doing in their neighbourhood.

hmmm, probably not. if i was going to make a thing about them i'd probably try to keep the same dynamics as the TOS/TNG klingons had to the federation, first antagonists and then later (reluctant) allies of the Empire. also the ideas i had were to take what we know of klingons, honourable/warlike/barbarians and go to the extreme opposite of that.

i think so, and that says it a lot better than i ever could! i keep wondering how far to deviate from the source, but after thinking about what the capital city on Qo'noS might look like, instead of being archaic or gothic have ultra-modern skyskapers, i keep thinking of the movie wall street and klingons as accountants or lawyers or extremely shady politicians and i know it's a sterotype but all as roles that often have negative connotations, ones you could even describe as dishonourable. ultra groomed and obssessed with looks, highly intelligent, their thrill in the hunt of closing a deal, but utterly devious and with the firepower to back them up.
