This description will contain light spoilers.So, that season premiere. Wow. I caught it during the live streams, I had three open because nearly all of them were lagging due to the immense amount of traffic, then of course I caught the Youtube links, and finally downloaded the episode (I'm sorry! But bring them out to Blu-Ray or DVD down in Australia, and I will buy them in a heart beat).
Discord is a freaking bad-ass. Much better than Nightmare Moon in my opinion, because all we had with Nightmare is the threat of what she will do if she got her way, but with Discord, he just totally messes with the mane cast in seconds, as can be seen when he takes away what's most important to them (okay, Fluttershy not so much), in seconds, all for a game. Do not. Fuck. With Discord.
I have to disagree with those who say the episode felt a little rushed, I will concede and say that the first half was a little, but this is a kids show, they have to re-introduce the characters, establish a threat, go through all those story telling steps, etc. (Also, epic Celestia is epic!) When we get to the Hedge Maze, oh man... wow.
I think to me Pinkie Pie's erm.. corruption I guess you could call it, was heart breaking, probably the worst of them all. I have to disagree with my fellow Bronies who say that it was a cop out when Discord "cheated" with Fluttershy (read: Anti-trolled), because seriously, if Pinkie's corruption was bad, I dont think I could have survived Fluttershy.
I also want to shout out some appreciation for the animators, they really shined through with this episode, and even dropped in a little surprise for the older crowd, the Donald Duck fighting stance, seen above, these guys are just fucking awesome. Also, I'm not sure if everypony has seen this, but they've also sort of canonised Magneighto! I can't believe how much effort these blokes go through for their fans. It's unbelievable!

I have to say, that is the one episode of the series so far that I hated so much that I refuse to ever watch it again, unless maybe (and that's a big maybe) it is being shown back to back with Return of Harmony part 2. The episode had the same problem as the sixth Harry Potter movie; it was depressing throughout the entire thing, there was no part of it, not even at the beginning, when the mane six were actually happy. it started with three best friends fighting each other, then had the mane six getting all scared, mixed up, and angry trying to solve some crazy weather conditions, then had Celestia tell them about the release of an ancient evil, then had said ancient evil hide the Elements from them, then had him take away their wings and horns, then had him torment them and turn them into corrupt, evil versions of the ponies we all know and love, and finally ended with him winning.

If anypony's corruption was a copout, it was Rarity's. She didn't get any interaction or any attempt to turn her Element back on her or anything, just 'here's a giant diamond bam now you're corrupted'.
