Description In 13th century style.
That was an illuminated border I made for an exhibition here in Montreal. On parchment with historical pigments (Walnut stain, lead white, gold powder, iron oxide on vellum) It shows the 3 steps in illumination : basic drawing (usually with alizarin, I do prefer iron oxyde...) The colouring part : that's the moment when people starts screaming because they think they failed, that their drawing sBEEPks and they try to run out of the workshop (I close the doors).. the design will re-appear when you finish with the 3rd step : the dark outlines and white highlights, don't worry I added a close up of the central part. It measures 1 1/2 in. and the whole drawing is 4 1/2 inches.

I saw your DD and decided to snoop around the rest of your gallery. There is something so charming about your gallery that I can't seem to put into words. Hmm, perhaps I'll try. It's "transporting". All your work is so timeless, yet it transports me back to an age where women wore long flowing dresses and men wore armor. I love the little details of this particular piece. It's got the most beautifully warm colours and the almost symmetrical design is so eye pleasing. It's so nice to see this type of art, it's rare here at dA.

simply lovely.

Thanks guys *kicks trish around a bit just for fun*
gpalmer> usually I use ammonia gum but in this case, it's gold powder so the binding is ox gall (ox bile.. Not sure of the name in english)
Once it's dry, you can add a layer of white egg claret on top of that (by claret I mean the liquid that rests at the bottom of the bowl when you've whipped up some egg whites and left them to pause for a few minutes)
Is it just me or we're sounding like "Baking with Julia" ? ;p

Absolutely wonderful. The illuminator in me is sick with envy. Is that glair you're using, or gum? (curious)
