The only reason this became a thing was because FoolInTheWater thinks I need only the most basic barebones knowledge of the Inspector Gadget cartoon to make a Penny Gadget fan comic.As you can see, I kinda disagree with that.
Something like this is best left to someone like jbwarner86 .

So let's start from the beginning: have you ever actually watched an Inspector Gadget episode? What do you already know about the series?

As in, a full episode? Hmm, honestly, I don't know...like, I want to say yes, but something tells me it's just my brain trying to trick me. That, or it could just be one of the few clips I saw. 
I know about Penny and her dog Brain. Gadget's her uncle, and he's also half-robot, I think; I'm not sure if they clarify how much of him is human. There's also this girl named Atsuko who I would assume is Penny's friend...maybe? There's also a group of bad guys who I think is named M.A.D., which I'm guessing the bad guy Dr. Claw runs, or is at least the head honcho of. He has no idea that Penny works behind the scenes to thwart his plans; he just thinks Gadget does all the hero work. Also, Claw is never seen from the front, or at least never should be.
How much of that did I get right?

That's all pretty dead-on, except I'm pretty sure Atsuko was only in one episode. I think the show's fans have made her out to be a more significant character than she actually was.

So before you do a comic, I'd recommend watching at least a few episodes of the show, just to get a bead on the tone and the voices of the characters. The complete original series is on Hulu, and knowing you, I'd suggest checking out the episodes that all those underwater scenes came from - "A Bad Altitude", "Dry Spell", and "The Bermuda Triangle", all from Season 1. (Don't bother with Season 2, they added a new character named Corporal Capeman and it was fucking stupid.)
