Description
I thought I would go ahead and start with Moondancer, as she is the main character of my fanfic. I've had this OC for several years, (since '11) so when "Amending Fences" came out I didn't have the heart to change her name; so Moondancer it remains.2001 - ???? I won't say what year she dies in. (for reference, mlp:fim happens in the early part of the 1200's)
Moondancer was discovered as a foal in a dilapidated old barn by some waste-scavengers. (In that they scavenged waste, not that they scavenged ON the waste, although I suppose the later is also true.) She was found wrapped up in a crate with another filly, an Earth-pony, and a parchment tore out of a spell book bearing their names: Moondancer and Valentine. The town the scavengers hailed from readily accepted the little pink Earth-foal; but were very hesitant towards adopting a unicorn. (They were still stuck in the depression after the fall of the Princesses and The War of the Horses, and distrust and distaste in any of the other races of ponies was still in practice.) Eventually, they decided to take pity on the orphan unicorn, (they may hate unicorns, but they weren't so evil as to leave a helpless baby to die. ) they would take great pains and be very strict with her, and raise her up to behave as a model EARTH-PONY.
Being of a sensitive personality, eager to please, and in need of acceptance, such restraints she found difficult to bear. Sensing a general dislike from the adults, and forever teased by the other foals for her raciality, (except by Valentine, they remained as close as sisters) Moondancer basically shrunk back into her shell, only popping out occasionally for the sake of Valentine.
Moondancer was a blank-flank for an unusually long time, being held back from any activities deemed 'unicorny' and kept to various 'Earth-pony' tasks. However, she did not have a green hoof, was awful at any sewing, and deemed hopeless in culinary endeavors. The use of magic of any kind was strictly prohibited. She had a lot of trouble going through puberty with all those sudden magical surges happening unexpectedly. Around when she guessed herself to be 17, one of the stallions of Dirtville took a wife from a neighboring village. (the only villages left in Equestria at that time were mainly comprised of one large family, they preferred the term 'village' to 'tribe') The marriage was not approved by the Dirtville clan, the the Nickerfields (from where the wife hailed) thought it a great match. A terribly argument ensued; nearly resulting in the newlywed's exile and disowning from the Dirtvillians, and the Nickerfields being shunned from Dirtville. This would have been rather disastrous as the two tribes traded a good deal and relied on each other for survival, whether they admitted it or not. Moondancer, seeing how much depended on their agreeing, was unexpectedly able to come up with a resolution. Neatly and simply she settled the affair and Burdock and his wife were forever grateful. (They got to remain in Dirtville) Moondancer got her Cutie-mark, but was left entirely puzzled as to what it meant. I won't tell you here, you'll have to read the books to find out.
She is good at singing, and would be obsessed with reading if she had any books. (Learning was not highly prized at that time, if you had enough food to last the winter you were doing good!) Despite the utter taboo of magic, Unicorn nature could not be so easily subdued, and she would occasionally practice simple levitation when no-pony was looking. Her magic is mostly Psychic based (like Luna's) but she doesn't discover that for a while.
Thank you for looking! If you read through all that you get an extra thank you. Thank you.
