Description
“God’s Not Dead” is a 2014 live-action Christian drama film that shares the name of a song & album by “The Newsboys”. The film was filmed during late 2012 and released in theatres on March 21st.
The story revolves around a young college student (portrayed by Shane Harper, “Good Luck Charlie”) named Josh Wheaton (Josh, Wheaton? That name sounds a little too familiar and rewrote around). Anyway, he is taking a philology class to get a degree. However, it is taught by an atheist professor named Jeffery Radisson (Christian actor Kevin Sorbo, “90s Hercules” work, “What If?...” and “Soul Surfer”). And it isn’t a bad thing that he is an atheist, but that he forces his students to sign a paper declaring that God doesn’t exist. Since Josh refuses to compromise his beliefs, Radisson offers him a chance to prove that God’s not dead. This risk could possibly damage his future. His off-screen parents and who else are concerned, and his angry girlfriend isn’t too happy about it. Over the course of the film, there are like a multitude of sub-plots. They at first seem unnecessary, but the film cleverly blends them together over the course of the picture. One is about a Pastor Josh knows named Dave (David A. R. White) who, with his friend, plan to go to Disneyworld but their car stops working. A business and animal-rights journalist woman learns that she has cancer and will die soon. Her business man boyfriend, and his sister, both have a mother in mental elderly care. And a Muslim girl tries to hide her Christian faith from her family. another part of the main plot involves Josh’s Chinese PRC foreign exchange student friend “Martin”, who is struggling with his father as well as learning about Christ. The actors and actress’ pull off great performances with their characters. Josh, for example, is an everyday college Christian faced with hard dilemmas. As for Mr. Sorbo’s character, he is more of a force to be feared instead of someone who’s hated or loved to be hated. While, having some sympathy within his background.
As a Christian film, this feature features cameo appearances from Christian celebrities. The “Newsboys” (Michael Tait, Jody Davis, Duncan Phillips, and Jeff Frankenstein) appear at the end during a concert, singing the song that the movie shares the name with of course. I am sad that Peter Fuller left before the movie was made, but it’s all alright. Plus, Michael’s excellent voice works much better with the song. Duck Commander Willie Robertson (along with his wife) appears once in the film, and Willie is on a screen during the concert. Sigh… even though I haven’t even seen an episode, I wonder.. WHAT IS WITH ALL THE DUCK DYNASTY BUZZ AND TRENDING? It’s a reality television show about a group of people firing at ducks…. And, members from the Duck family make appearances in multiple recent entertainment and places (e.g. last year’s “Merry-Larry”). However, I can’t fully complain, since they are a righteous family, and I should be glad that people would rather watch that instead of something like “Jersey Shore”… although I care as much for reality television as much as I do for some recent American decisions. Anyway, it would’ve been nice to see cameos from Phil Vischer, Willie Aames, Frank Peretti, and even the Duggar Family.
I really like that it (a live-action film in a modern age) has a PG-rating, although viewer discretion is needed. Also, it would be nice to see some animated real-life dramas like this made. In conclusion, this 113 minute feature is a must-see for any Christian and non, leading anyone to Christ and strengthening faith of believers.

Art by /Noah, I’ll draw it because no one else will. Speaking of which, I forgot to talk about it. I made the focus around Josh and Radisson, although they were supposed to be bigger (so I put a cross there in the space). I did my best to get every important character and real-life person in this picture. And yes, I like to use my gifted drawing style. I hope you enjoy it.
