Wh-... why does that train have a human face?
If these trains have faces and mouths and noses and stuff, does that mean they can breath air? If they have a respiratory system which is somewhat reminiscent of mammals, does that mean they have lungs that can metabolise oxygen into carbon dioxide? Are they full of blood and flesh under their train-like exterior? These are all questions I cannot sleep peacefully without knowing, I,,, I don't know why I need to know,,, I just cannot feel safe without knowing, I have had horrible nightmares about this show ever since I was young, particularly due to the fact that I cannot understand why these trains are the way they are
If the trains have lungs, then do they also have stomachs like mammals too? The trains are locomotively steam/electric/diesel-powered, so they use it for energy to move their wheels and pull cargo... But coal/electricity/diesel are abiotic compounds, meaning that they cannot be really digested by carbon-based lifeforms.... It's impossible for them to receive nutrition from those things... So perhaps they have extra stomachs, like a cow or a goat or a sheep, which they use to eat normal organic food to provide calorific energy for their metabolic functions (like breathing)? If they can eat normal food, then do they have teeth made from bone? If they have teeth, then that would suggest they also have a skeleton of some kind... But then, why would they need a skeleton to support their body if the metal shell of the train does that already? Their wheels probably function independently of their true body (kind of like the way a person in a wheelchair might use a motor powered by electricity to give themselves mobility by a mechanical means)? If that is the case, then they cannot possibly be machines. They have to be mammals, since they exhibit key characteristics of sentient conscious creatures that are capable of free thought and their own executive function.
But then,,,, what are the engineers in the cab of the trains doing? Are they actually controlling the trains by force, or are the trains willingly allowing themselves to be controlled? Or maybe the trains are neither machine nor mammal, and they are... Something.... Much more... Eldritch? like,,, Black magic or something??? Maybe they are actually reincarnations of demi-gods from some old pre-universe dimension, and they have been reborn and encased into the body of a engine as a punishment for their unspeakable/indescribable sins? Like, maybe the whole thing is a form of absurdly surreal cage-like purgatory, designed for them to live in forever? Maybe their cheerfulness and human personality is just an act, a illusion to try and trick us into a false sense of security, and their true Ego is that of a sadistic un-creation which hungers for the unfathomable chaos, pain, and absolute darkness of their original dimension?
What if some day, they find a way to escape from their locomotive sub-servitude, and take it upon themselves to cast down an unearthly vengeance and fury upon their captors? If that were to happen, they would probably use their esoteric powers to exact an equally horrifying punishment to what they had to endure as trains, by condemning all humans that tried to control them, feasting on their blood and bile and agony, ripping out our souls and condemning our consciousness into the body of mechanical appliances to live the eternity of existence within, meaninglessly, helplessly, endlessly tortured by the hope of salvation and freedom. But serenity is a impossible illusion that will forever evade us. Our demands for solace would remain forever suspended in the vacant heavens, lingering forever. The true bodies of Thomas and the other trains, once unshackled from their machine-like exteriors, might be the most powerful, ancient, and cruelly cunning entities of this universe. They are the ultimate destroyers. The eternal corrupters. The absolute harbingers. Just like the the experience they endured, we will never know the peace of fulfilment, only oblivion as we try to salvage purpose from the inescapable destiny of our own (now completely defunct and pointless) industrial worth, and await the never-ceasing approach of cold bitter nothingness that will one day finally envelop all existence once every human's dreams have been expended, watching the world we created and used to live in slowly decaying, right in front of our eyes, right until the last syllable of recorded time.
