Description

In Lego-Lore, there are always generic stories of good vs. evil. Because of this, for every hero, there must also be every villain. In the case of the medieval fantasy adventure action-figure line “Knights’ Kingdom”, the menacing adversary is none other than a treacherous and sinister Sir Lord Vladek: The Black Knight of the Scorpion.  Sporting black and red armor, this bearded fiend is not a person to be strangled with.

With an unknown origin, the knight Vladek was the highest and most trusted of advisors to King Mathias of Morcia. However, when the King expected it least, Vladek betrayed and overthrew Mathias with the help of the mysterious Shadow-Knights: Vladek also lied to the people of Morcia that Matthias vanished.  Wait… a sinister shadowish man overthrows his King (who has something to do with Lions mind you) in order to have the power of the throne, and he lies to the people about what happened…   hmmm…  where have I heard that before? Anyway, the four central heroes of the story eventually discovered and rescued the King, who informed them of the legendary Shield of Ages. Vladek himself was busy defeating those who challenged him in the Grand Tournament (although set instructions show him gazing into his dark purple crystal ball and then ordering his minions to put a halt to the heroes): in which Vladek used the Power of the Book of Morcia to cheat. However, when Mathias returned, one of the Knights challenged Vladek and contoured him using the Heart of the Shield of Ages. After being imprisoned, Vladek escaped and fled, in which led him to the Forgotten Kingdom of Ankoria. Hungry for power and revenge, Vladek called upon more Shadow Knights, who of you have not figured out, are loyal knights of Morcia who have come under a dark spell. Vladek, now “Lord Vladek”, constructed a powerful Vladmask, which is a giant red mask that’s full of dark power and could have possibly destroyed Morcia. (Yeah, Vladek was both narcissi, and couldn’t afford fancy Toa mask’ from eLoch). Unfortunately for Vladek, the youngest of the knights struck the mask instead of aiming for him (Vladek), and the mask cracked and shattered. And for a third time many years later, Vladek tried again… to… okay, I cannot find any details on what the vlak he was going to do, but he was aided by Rogue Morcian Knights.

Vladek is a dreadful and much underrated Lego villain, which is surprising if you look into his actions. Yes, he is the generic bad guy who just can’t wait to be king, but there is a reason he is not looked upon lightly. Frist off, his emblem is the Scorpion, a very poisonous and inpredictable animal. Secondly, the dude is a master of ancient dark sorcery, which includes his crystal ball, his Vladmask, and the sword of his, which is darkest coal, being sinister and deadly. And don’t forget his power to put anyone in a trance and make them a shadowy minion of his. Speaking of which, could there be more to Shadowknighting people than just gaining an army? What secrets does Vladek know but won’t share? Bricks, what do the people at Lego know that we may never know? Third off, he is proclaimed to be frightening.  When his Vladmask isn’t on (his average sized one), he can cause fear in the most stalwart of heroes.  And finally or so, Vladek is an example for a majority for lego baddies. As I said at the beginning, Vlad’s colors are Black-&-Red, a color a number of Lego villains seem to crave. Another factor is his ability to curse mind-control, which is related to the Wizard from Castle (2007) and the Wizard from Spellbreaker 4D (Legoland film), who both command armies of skeletons.

So why is Vladek, along with the rest for Knights’ Kingdom lore not brought up in recent times?  Well, it would take a number of guess’ .  the line was discontinued too early, the series wasn’t as received as much a much more hyped action-figure line that was launched three years prior to the 2004 Knights Kingdom sets and figures, new properties have overshadowed KKII. However, eight years after the line ended, an EasterEgg was seen in “The Lego Movie”. On a map shown in the villain’s business meeting room, one of the many locations there was a place named “Vladek’s Realm”.  It is unknown in that universe, but this realm could possibly be a conquered Morcia, the land of Ankoria, or someplace new.

For the art, I used photos of the action figure, and concept illustrations from artist Mike Rayhawk www.mikerayhawk.com/vladek.htm who was involved in development of the series. I desired to stay accurate, but I ended up doing what I was not planning to do when drawing Knights’ Kingdom fanart…    …creative freedom. If you know what Vladek mark1 looks like, than you’ll be able to see the changes I did to him. some of the designs and lighting are also based upon Rayhawk’s picture (like the Moorlands or Mistlands, and the greyish and shadowing dark tone).  I did my best to capture the essence of the character, and I hope you’re really delighted with what I have forged. Also, not that it’s important, but I did this back in November (finishing it on Thanks-Giving, along with the MJ and SM picture sonicclone.deviantart.com/art/…)

I’ll draw it because no one else will. Oh, P.S. Vladek is also said to be the great ancestor of a sinister, ruthless, cold-heart bionic terrorist mastermind..  a man.. simply known… as Ogel.

If Cedric the Bull ever met Vladek, Cedric would be all ''You disgust me!''
Cuz Cedric had standards and a heart that made him look like a saint in comparison to Vladek. Cedric is even more underrated then Vladek
Also Knights Kingdom 1 is waaay more underrated in comparison to KK2 to the fact that Lego has seemed to have forgotten it even was a thing. KK2 has been acknowledged in some parts of Lego. The only time where i've seen KK1 acknowledged is in the bio of the collectable Evil Knight figure saying that he once served Cedric....THAT AIN'T GOOD ENOUGH LEGO!

You know what Lego should've done? Make a damn KK1 prequel theme focused on the kingdom where Cedric came from with his 12 mentioned brothers back when he was still a prince and before he got angry being left with no land to rule, left home, went rogue, formed the Bull Bandits and travelled to Leo's kingdom.
I wanna see what Cedric was like before the events of KK1!

The construction behind this piece really blurs the line between it representing either the best of your work and the worst of it. One thing's for sure, you sure have got the concept of atmosphere down perfectly in this.

It would be so cool if they brought this line back, especially if they made them compatible with the new HF/Bionicle building system.

I personally prefer the Knights' figures they way they were designed, and not as a Technic like build, unless you meant something else.

If so, hopfully the original story gets a  direct-to-DVD movie treatment (or theatrical if really good... as long as it is 2D) or new versions of the original books. But, with a new story still.

I don't really see them doing a full length feature 2D, but they might do shorts like the new Bionicle stuff is going to be.

I would still be nice to see a studio commissioned to make one, but I will say, shorts like those would be fun to see.

The New Bionicle line is going to tell its story thru these shorts as well as a book series.
It wouldn't surprise me if they did reboot Knights Kingdom like they're doing Bionicle, if they produce sets based on the CCBS system, like they did with Chima and DC/MARVEL Superheroes

I have only seen  pictures of that on Mike Rayhawk's page...  and read it from Wikipedia and Brickipeida. I'll get around someday to reading one of the 2006 books.

Also, if Johnny Thunder is still being used by Lego, & if a new Bionicle mask can be discovered, I am sure Vladek may get out of that bubble.
