The thing is, Sally was first and has more of a rounded character, especially when you take her SatAM characterization into account. Amy didn't get any improvements over being a fangirl stalker who's damsel in distress until the comic's final years whilst at the same time, thanks to stupid hate from stupid people for stupid reasons, Sally was bastardized with that Mecha Sally bullshit.

Wouldn't that make Sonic and Amy quasi-siblings, then, since Sonally was the de facto pairing for umpteen years and then enter Amy, who has a stalker crush on "Sonniku". It would be weird as all heck, but hey, Sonic's origins are both American AND Japanese & Japan's always been on the weird side of relationships, it seems.
