Plus, SonAmy doesn't even exist outside of Japanese Sonic X, anyway. The comics - thanks to influence from SatAM - had always been PRO Sonally. This is not opinion, but FACT.

Fact: 1. Amy started out as an 8-year-old damsel in distress rescued by local hero Sonic who developed a cute celebrity crush on the hero. Unfortunately, he's already been in a relationship with Sally a good few years beforehand.

Fact 2. Sonic and Sally are both 16-years-old or older (if they ever age). Even after forcibly aging herself up to try and get closer to Sonic age-wise, Amy's 12 at most. A 16-year-old with a 12-year-old is a taboo no-no in the West, due to implications of pedophilia from the age gap.

Fact 3: Even though Sonic is aware that Amy likes him, he doesn't want to hurt her feelings, so it's hard for him to break things gently with her by basically telling her that he's already spoken for in Americanized media (at least before 1998, which was the year that SEGA of Japan's jealousy fucked everything up by removing the concept of localizing each country's own standalone Sonic and more or less internalizing the franchise, which is why Sally became regulated to just the Archie Sonic comics, even though she was created way back 1991 from SEGA of America using the Ricky template model of the little squirrels rescued from their robot battery prisons in the first two Genesis video games to create her, back when there was no real story to Sonic & The Freedom Fighters/Team Freedom VS Dr. Robotnik/Dr. Eggman than the environmental theme of nature VS machine, what with Green Hill Zone being The Great Forest/Knothole Village, Scrap Brain Zone being Robotropolis, The Special Zone being The Void, and even some locales not even getting their names changed between the Genesis games and the Saturday Morning cartoon animated by DiC, like The Labyrinth Zone - in Sonic 1, it was an underwater level as an island having sunk into the ocean & in SatAM, there was an episode about an island sinking into the sea which was inspired by The Labyrinth Zone - and the Floating Island which Knuckles the Echidna calls home and would've done so on SatAM had season 3 been greenlit, considering that, on top of Knuckles being introduced, Tails would've finally come into his own to receive the much-needed character development he had earned due to SEGA having the kid turn out to be a child prodigy genius (effectively rendering Rotor obsolete as the team's resident inventor/mechanic, which is why his comic appearances became far & few between so much so that he's basically even more of a background character than even some of the later characters from future games brought to the comics per SEGA's edict that even the comics had to be internalized and of course. the suggestion that Rotor was gay in the decades proceeding the legalization of LGBTQI marriage certainly didn't do him any favors, either) which just wasn't something the two-tailed fox was until way after Sonic 2, which SatAM was more or less based on, with even the pilot episode containing game canon badniks like the Buzz Bomber and at the time, Tails' over-reliance on Sonic (also seen in the pilot, as Tails needed Sonic's protection as the youngest of the group) bordered on gratingly annoying at times for some gamers playing the games (in Sonic 2, Tails' dependence on Sonic existed to keep the young kitsune from crashing into things if Sonic sped ahead too fast or vice-versa, Sonic losing life points if Tails flew past the screen too quickly, because the hassle with Sonic 2 was that you had to keep both Sonic and Tails on-screen when both wanted to go faster and if you couldn't keep up, both ended up dead, either due to the stupidity of one or the other, both not watching out for sneaky badniks, a mistimed platform jump or an emerging hole in the ground, or a flying projectile trying to damage your health, not to mention that this was back in the days when games only first started to implement check points as an in-game save feature, but you only had 3 tries to complete a level from its check point and if you failed all 3 times, you had to start back from the very beginning).


This being, of course, until SEGA issued an edict stating that Sonic was not supposed to have an OFFICIAL girlfriend anymore, which completely destroys the "Power Couple" dynamic Sonally was inherently infused with, whilst at the same time, gives false hope to SonAmy shippers when you know damn good & well that SonAmy will NEVER happen. EVER. Not just because of the age gap (Amy's 12 to Sonic's 16), but because Sonic's always kind of had this free spirit attitude about him, even when he was still CANONICALLY Sally's boyfriend (as Sally was the first long-term girlfriend who stuck by Sonic [as both Madonna - named for the Glam Rocker "Material Girl" pop star who was the 1980's equivalent of Lady Gaga - was actually supposed to appear in Sonic 1 as a love interest, but licensing rights fizzled out, so SEGA of America took one of the Ricky templates and remade it into an anthropomorphic female chipmunk/squirrel hybrid named Sally & made HER Sonic's mainstay girlfriend in the American Sonic media - and Sara - from the imported OVA that's a complete departure from any of the known localizations of Sonic, both "Classic" & "Modern" - but kind of was the anime answer to the scrapped Madona concept, just as Elise from Sonic 2006 is the humanized version of basically what Sally was on SatAM & was planned to be in the work-in-progress games that were to feature her [these games to feature the SatAM cast were to also introduce to the franchise stealth elements to make the games more like Metal Gear Sonic, rather just the speedy rush of danger that most gamers tend to associate Sonic with, even though both timing & strategy are crucial components to all of the Sonic games, speed be damned, which further enhanced Sally's role at the time as the team's thinker & planning strategist opposite Sonic, who essentially leaps headlong into the thick of trouble without judging the consequences] thanks to the cult status of SatAM & the Archie Sonic comics basically taking the Sonally ship from the cartoon & applying it to the printed page).
