It's crazy that I've shipped these two for so long and one of my most popular deviations is a colorization of Tracy Yardley's art of the two, and then it's basically made official!

That is an excellent question. I mean, WLW and MLM couples are effectively the same as opposite-sex couples in virtually all aspects, but for some reason there are still folks who see it as a taboo that children should be shielded from in "children's" media like TV shows and comics. It's sad that this is the case, but I would have loved to see Sallicole become an item. Granted, the Legend of Korra comic features Korrasami regularly engaging in PDA, so maybe I don't know anything.

I know SEGA doesn't want romance depicted with any of their characters after the lawsuit, however, neither Sally and Nicole are under that contract mandate so I could see a story between them happening in some later comic. I need to read up on the fan made Archie story continuum and see if they are planning on doing anything with couples and romance.
