McGill Redmen vs Queens Golden Gaels
McGill: 10

Pretty much sums up the game.

Nice shot! I used to be a 'tender myself until my gimpy hips forced me to call it quits. I miss the game so much I can hardly watch a game without getting depressed. I think that will fade with time though. I have only been away from the game for a few years.

That's why I heart my mk3 I hear the Nikon D3 has an edge though...

I love the goal keepers attention and look!
Mate now you need to add a spectacular cricket shot with a batsman edging a ball to the slips behind him. That would be a great cricket action shot!
Perhaps a trip to the W indies?

Haha - next time I'm back in Bermuda I'll make sure I get some cricket shots
Thanks!

Be nice, they demolished our campus arena a few months ago. "Screw your education, things have to look purty."
You'd think a university of rich white kids would have a better hockey team even with that though.

Ah that sucks
I've definitely felt the same with McGill ... they can pay to have the exterior of the premises all nice and pretty, but when I comes to funding things that matter, I've heard some major gripes

Heh, I don't know of any particular problems with Queen's (except the clubs and bands, but they're always whiny)... but you'd think a $25 million renovation of buildings and roads on campus would affect some departments. xD

Ah - McGill, my mother taught there many moon ago...but I was drawn in by the hockey shot.
I've been getting more and more stringer assignments to shoot college hockey and, as I mostly grew up in Tennessee, I'm just learning the sport and what to look for shooting-wise.
Is this through the glass at all? The college rinks around here have no "shooting holes" or whatever they may be called.
Fantastic shot - hope you sell a few!

Ah, good stuff
It's a great sport for making photos - especially the fights
This was shot over the glass and netting actually. I generally try to avoid shooting through the glass if I can, since you lose around a stop, as well as some sharpness. No shooting holes here either.
If the lighting was a little better I wouldn't mind, but since I'm stuck at 3200 if I want a decent shutter speed I need all the light I can get!
Thanks!

Well - that looks great for being at 3200 - but was with a MarkIII...definitely less noise than my 5D or 20D! Yeah - first time I tried to shoot through the glass it looked like ass...second time I went higher and tried to get what I could. I only have the 70-200 f/2.8, so I can't get quite as close...but it worked much better.

Yea, as long as you get the exposure smack on in-camera, the mk3 is definitely usable right up to 6400!
The 5D is a very good noise performer too though, but like you said, the lower pixel density means the 70-200 can leave you a little short I'm still looking forward to getting a full-frame camera in the future though

The way you caught the goalie's eyes adds a lot of intensity.
(Or, perhaps, resignation. "Oh, durn, there goes another one.")

Haha yea
They brought out two goalies for the game. One let 4 through - the other, 6 I believe

Well caught, that's real split second action and the eyes are in just to top it off. Great.

Unless Verrilli made an assist I'm pretty sure he made the save. #6 wasn't on the scoring list. Thanks!
