I've always assumed that "reverse the polarity of the neutron flow", as it's patent nonsense, is just Three's shorthand for "I'm busy being clever and can't explain what I'm actually doing, not to humans anyway".

Delightful - I knew it! I'll have to see if I can find the full scene, but thanks for the lead! I could watch whole episodes of the Master and the Doctor snarking at each other, given the chance, and the Third Doctor's run is full of opportunities.
