She looks so calm, it's beautiful, but I also get the sense that I should be afraid of her... ^_^'

wow..i'ts really cool! If you have such awesome results with you're 18-55...I can visualize what you'll make with such a great lense as a 50mm
1.4, 1.8 II, or 1.2L....the best choice for a portrait photography. Good Luck! Waiting for smth new from you!

Thanks
And I'll admit, I'm a noob, so what do the 1.4/1.8 II/1.2L things mean? I have never been able to figure that out...

It's types of a 50mm lens.
1.4/1.8 II/1.2L - "1.8" means that 1.8 is the maximal apperture or minimal F number available for this lens. You can set it at the "Av" mode. You can get interesting results with a big apperture. 1.8 apperture allow you to take a shots in underlit places..so you don't need to set more ISO and the shot come out noiseless.
The best use of a big apperture is in a portraits with a nature or other outdoors and interesting backgrounds. Background is out of focus and awesome blurred. For example - [link] you can see how the place out of focus is blurred.
All lenses 1.2L/1.4/1.8 are differs by a maximal apperture, price, Image Stabilizer presence, design...
the best lens is a 50mm 1.2L of course. Portraits taken with this lens are quite perfect. It's a professional lens and it's price is hell high...about $1500
If you still have any questions..please feel free to ask..I know some interesting facts..but my English still is a bit poor..*don't like to learn it* so I'm sorry if I make a mistake

I thought the same...this bokeh is quite realistic as on a 1.8 apperture with 50mm.

wow..perfect piece! awesome focus and colors! can you show the EXIF information of this shot? what apperture and lense used?

SoraBelle In reply to makemehappy [2007-10-03 20:16:14 +0000 UTC]
I don't know how to make the EXIF show up, I shot this back in February I think. But I used the Canon 18mm-55mm lense on Program setting. I hope that helps...

wow...you're genius! you take really awesome shots.
I'm interested in a f number, iso etc..there is a helpful program named Photo Info by Microsoft.
Or you just can check it in Photoshop by pressing Alt + Shift + Ctrl + I, and select Camera Data
