Daetorious spent all of November fixing the fence he burned for free (Note to SkyWolf: If you want that to be your fence he had to fix then it was, and if not then it was the neighbor's but if you have any ideas for any of this for your end then go ahead! If you had any remodeling plans, now's a good time lol. ) and he had a lot of time to think about what happened that day. Losing to someone half his size who had no magical powers was a hard pill to swallow. At first he just fumed in frustration while chopping wood and hammering nails. A dozen posts later he felt guilty for coming so close to hurting Celestian, and by the time he finished the first section he reluctantly admitted that maybe angrily shouting at someone wasn't the most productive way to solve anything. He'd seen that the guy wore a hearing aid and was now fairly certain he really didn't know how his actions had affected them because he couldn't hear what happened behind him. He tried to justify things in his head by insisting somebody like that shouldn't have a horse to begin with and he shouldn't be the only one to blame, but by the time the fence was completed a few weeks later he was ready to accept that none of this would have happened if he hadn't tried to bully a human just because he was a fire-breathing dragon.

Celestian's magic healed all natural things and he was able to save most of the burned trees, but couldn't restore the scorched grass. A bright side however is that the ashes would rejuvenate the soil for the following spring.

The first snow of the year was falling over the crystal kingdom when he returned home on the second day of December a little more solemn than he had been a month ago. He would carry the scar for the rest of his life as the price of his arrogance and a reminder that size isn't everything. He'd apologized to Celestian several times. He still felt bad about it. He even gave Rain some pumpkin treats and didn't yell at her when she jumped over his property line. As he was moping around shoveling sheep poop into a wheel barrow, Celestian decided he'd beaten himself up enough.

dae's face was based on a combination of Viggo Mortensen's Aragorn + Dante from Devil May Cry 4, and the reference for his bangs was FF7's Sephiroth and Xenosaga's KOSMOS.

Daetorious's iridescent scales are a reference to the indigo snake which Dae's creator, my hubby Rikuryu, calls "the most beautiful snake in the world" — there are many colorful and dazzling variations in boas and pythons and whatnot that were selectively bred by humans, but the indigo snake is entirely wild and not recommended as an exotic pet due to the foul odor it uses for defense; for him they are a symbolic representation of how humans can never manipulate nature into anything more perfect than it already is and that "the best things in life are free" — free as in wild with no fences, cages or chains, and of course the "beautiful with a foul smell" trait is a great metaphor for a lot of things in life. Those ideals were passed on to Daetorious, who is against gelding/docking/cropping/wing-clipping, harsh training methods, breeding animals to be intentionally deformed and unhealthy to the point they cannot survive without human care because "they look cute that way" and so on, and believes no one should ever have any animal at all unless when given the chance of being set free, it willingly chooses to stay with you instead. The fact there is a tiny bit of color shining through his black-on-black color scheme, but only when the light touches him a certain way, is meaningful symbolism for his character as well.
