Description
A near legendary class of starship dating from the recent Clone Wars, the Arquitens would be the result of an unprecedented collaboration between two of the Galaxy's most well known shipyards, Kuat Drive Yards & Corellian Engineering Corporation. Designed to replace the age-old Reignata-class Heavy Corvette used by the Republic Judicial Forces before the outbreak of the Clone Wars. The Arquitens would end up becoming so successful that it would continue service far into the Imperial Era, though the entire Arquitens fleet had received refits and all new ones were being built to new spec, the class would still continue seeing refits until the very end of the Empire. The success of the Arquitens would later come to inspire the Class-546 Project by the Empire in its waning days, resulting in a successor class to the Arquitens, the Lightspeed-class.Originally designed for usage by the Republic, the Arquitens would feature a hybrid aesthetic, combining known features of KDY and CEC designs into an effect light patrol and escort vessel. Measuring in at 230m long, one of its most notable features was the split bow, with the base of the prongs featuring a very cramped hangar that during its Republic days carried a complement of eight V-19 Torrent starfighters or the same number of V-wing Interceptors. Though this hangar was only utilized by Arquitens in patrol duties as ones in escort missions would instead utilize their hangars as extended magazines for their four concussion missile launchers.
Later when the Republic became the Empire, the Arquitens would receive a fleet-wide refit, strengthening their spaceframes and retooling their hangar facilities to better accept the new TIE-series starfighters. Though this initial refit would retain the lateral cannons, a later refit would further reduce the armament by removing the lateral weapons and replacing them with escape pod bays as this second refit would feature an increased crew complement and an enhanced hangar facility to aid its new primary role, patrol and policing. The second refit of the Arquitens would be the most produced variant and would be known as the Command Cruiser by many. Though the Arquitens would receive one last refit near the end of the Empire's reign. This final refit, known as the Arquitens II, would completely remove the internal hangar and instead force any fighters to be carried externally between the bow prongs. In exchange for the removal of the hangar, a fifth main turret and a pair of smaller secondary reactors would be added, giving power to the additional energy weapon systems the Arquitens II had.
These ships are depicted at my own scale, (1px = 0.4m).
