Description

Humans come in many different shapes and sizes. Some are tall and thin, others are tall and fat. Some are short and thin, others are short and fat. The Shrith are no different, and many Shrith have varying body sizes and types, though many of them we have seen thus far are more-or-less on the leaner side. This specimen depicted is on the chubbier end of the spectrum, mostly because of a higher caloric intake. Oftentimes, the herd Queen is the biggest (both in height and weight) of her herd, but sometimes the Kithtakols, Drones and non-Queen females are a bit heavier, as well. Not as heavy as the Queen, though.

The Shrith above is a Kithtakol, and he’s a bit chonky. Fat distribution in the Shrith body can vary. Kithtakols, for example, accumulate fat in their thorax, abdomen, legs and face. In females, both Queens and non-Queen females, fat is primarily stored in the thorax, legs and face. Lastly, in Drones, fat is mostly stored in the thorax and legs, with the face having minimal fat. The tentacular arms of the Shrith don’t typically accumulate much fat unless the individual is very obese, and the arms more-or-less stay a similar size to leaner, thinner Shrith.

Fatness, in Shrith society, is viewed differently among different cultures, and there are norms and opinions around fatness depending on what Shrith type is fat, and in what culture. In almost every culture, a fat Queen is considered beautiful, and is a sign of a productive herd. Fat non-Queen females, though, tend to be less “socially acceptable” across cultures, as it is seen as greedy, since only the Queen should receive the most amount of food first, and so should really be the only one of her herd who is fat, or chubby at the very least. Drones, across cultures, tend to have more freedom with their weight. Even on a herd-scale, some herds find chubbier Drones to be more desirable, while other herds prefer slimmer Drones. As for Kithtakols, many cultures disagree over how they view fat Kithtakols. In the northern region of the Kiskxa’li peninsula, for example, a fat Kithtakol is really only seen as “acceptable” if they’re the dominant member of their pack. Other pack members that are not dominant are treated unfairly if they’re fat, and are often called ugly and selfish, and are encouraged to lose weight. In the south, though, fat Kithtakols are more socially acceptable, as it is seen as a sign of a very successful herd. Fatness and its views can vary a lot from culture to culture, and even region to region.

This bloke up here is from the southern coastal region of the Kisxka’li peninsula, and so he and his fatness is more socially-acceptable than those up north. His name is Tombo.
