Description
A little page of sketches of Shrith concept design, including the current Shrith design.
1 - Originally called the “Karth,” they were my first design for the Shrith world, which, at the time, had no name. They locomote on their four legs and have adapted their olfactory tentacles into arms. Their reproductive organs are located behind the beak on the face, while they feed with the petal-lipped mouth on their underside. They breathe through holes on their abdomen. While there were males and females, there was little physical difference, with the distinction being made through the one's scent. They also spoke with their beak by clicking rapidly in rhythmic patterns.
2 - A bipedal, erect creature that had no name. I imagined them being hermaphrodites and standing over ten feet tall. The hump on their back houses their vocal apparatus. I imagine they would walk in an elegant manner.
3 - A funky cylinder-dude with a leaf-like extension on his head, which acts as an ear of sorts. They walk on three legs and use another pair of limbs on their mantle for manipulation. They eat and drink through a proboscis located on their “pelvis.” I imagined them as hermaphrodites. Similar to the modern Shrith design, these folks speak with their nostrils. While I had used this idea before, it was the first time I incorporated it into the Shrith project. These folks had no name.
4 - Here we see the Shrith form starting to take shape. This guy’s a bipedal, horizontal creature, and he only has one arm. He breathes through small holes on his back that have ear-like flaps, though I never really considered what they’d have these flaps for. Now that I look back on it, I probably would have made the flaps play a role in heat regulation. Their head bears a single, slit-like compound eye. I imagined they would use antennae on their head as a way of hearing. This is the first creature to possess the species name of “Shrith.”
5 - Out of all the designs prior, I felt an allure with this design, and I found myself liking it more than previous designs. While I later replaced this version, they had a decent amount of art and worldbuilding associated with them. They bear four eyestalks, and use their center proboscis to eat and drink. Their front arms have shrunk down to little chicken-arms, and they instead manipulate with their outer two proboscises. They also bear wings, a feature that carries into the modern version/design.
6 - This design is pretty similar to the modern design, save for the single arm that this version has. Their arm, which, in this version, is a feeding proboscis, bears three smaller tentacles bearing two digits each.
7 - This is the modern Shrith design/version, and the main difference with this design is the replacement of the single arm with two arms, with the mouth being located between the top and bottom arm.
