No need for macro lens on shots like this. you need a lens that can produce shallow depth of field. wikipedia has a good article on it, search for bokeh

Wonderful complementary colours. The contrast between the softness of the bokeh and the hard, metallic, but almost scifi-esque smoothness of the curved object is what makes it for me.
I'm guessing either a bauble or some kind of car part.
