Almost done. Some more grinding, polishing then heat bluing. The thumbs are nearly done as well.Mild Steel 16g, 20g

I hammer them cold over a stake. it's killing my thumb.

Yep, lol. These were mostly done cold and my thumb is pretty much numb. I mainly dislike trying to get a stake into highly formed areas, then grinding around the flutes. Bah, hell with that,lol.

Did you use heat for the hand plates? I find it difficult to cold forge with out cracks forming.

I've never gotten cracks from cold forging. The heat just makes it much easier on me. It makes fitment easier too on some areas. If you look in my gallery you can see where I heated the metacarpal plate and hammered into the knuckle gadling to get them fit together.
The big triangular roll on the lower gauntlet in this picture was done completely cold.
I suspect if your getting cracks the metal is getting stretched a bit thin perhaps?

I think the last sheet of 18g was full of defects.It worked like cold rolled but brittle.

If you get your next batch from the same supplier try annealing the hell out of it before you work with it.
