Thanks so much! These are actually getting retrofitted into some armour for a woman. I'll have pics up once they're done

Oh nice! Is the woman's armor something that you will have made also?

Just wondering, i want to do stuff like this later on, if i might ask, how would you recommend starting ?

Pick up the book " Techniques of Medieval Armour Reproduction." It's not perfect, but it's pretty much the only book on the subject. It will give you a good idea of tools you can work with.

Also collect as many images and buy whatever books you can on real armour ( I think I'm up to about 3 dozen books on the subject)

When your making armour don't make it up out of your head, base it on original pieces. Those armourers had much more knowledge on the subject than you or I, so they knew what worked ( remember that this has to work and move with the human body )

Hit me up with questions if ya got them.

Ill check out that book, im going to put this all down really quick so i don't forget.
I was always obsessed of the medieval ages, so your work moved me into doing something with that obsession, I hope that ill actually start on this.

Thanks again, if I do have any questions, ill be sure to annoy you with them

Very nice! It's good to see proper metal armour Boy I'd love to be able to have the facilities to do that.

Thanks! Yeah it's definitely noisy, dirty work, lol. Don't need too much in the way of tools though, which is nice.

Marcusstratus In reply to Sothoth [2010-10-31 19:42:14 +0000 UTC]

oh? What are the tools you use for armouring?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sothoth In reply to Marcusstratus [2010-10-31 22:42:34 +0000 UTC]

The main ones, variety of hammers, small railroad anvil ( my large anvil occasionally), vise, some stakes, metal punch, files, grinder and polisher. That's quite literally all of it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Marcusstratus In reply to Sothoth [2010-11-01 22:09:20 +0000 UTC]

Ok, What are the stakes that you use? And also your grinder and polisher, are they on a motor mounted to a desk or what?

I've been interested in metalworking for years and have only dabbled in it (my metal works folder in my gallery). So far I've been restricted because of my lack of tools and seeing what you've been able to make with what little you have is encouraging

Sothoth In reply to Marcusstratus [2010-11-02 02:45:06 +0000 UTC]

Stakes are just an old axe head, a trailer ball hitch, a piece of round bar I ground to a point. Simple stuff The setup of my grinder and polisher is bad ass, they're back to back on a pedestal which I can move around. I'll get some pics for ya.

So Crazy Awesome! Great job!
Mind if I ask a price for something like these?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Sothoth In reply to Skinz-N-Hydez [2010-10-30 02:34:10 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Price on a set similar would be in the $1300-$1500 area. I've tried tallying up my hours on these and I'm around 100hrs. Making the fingers for these took FOREVER, lol.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Skinz-N-Hydez In reply to Sothoth [2010-11-01 17:51:41 +0000 UTC]

They are definitely worth every penny. If I had that kind of cash to spend you would be my first stop.

I'm thinking about making something like those in Brass. But after looking at these... I'm not sure if I want to attempt it. The fingers Would take A Very long time!

Just awesome man!

Thanks! I've toyed with the idea of making a "Golden" pair of gauntlets out of Bronze.
