Shattered Glass Ravage Like my previous Reference sheets this is mostly just a collection of sketches drawn to help me keep thing's consistent in my fan comics

On pre-war Cybertron the general consensus among functionist scholars was that a Cybertronian who lacked a ‘true’ robot-mode, did not have cognitive ability to make sound decisions of their own. In addition, many of these non-humanoid Cybertronians had a lower manual dexterity than other cybertronians, as they commonly lacked opposable thumbs or grasping appendages. As a result, under the old-Cybertronian Caste system such beast-formers were usually considered to be a lower form of life than their humanoid counterparts and were considered to be the ‘pet’ of their master, wild-animals or vermin.

Following the Post-Quintession repopulation of Cybertron, it was considered highly fashionable in certain sectors of Cybertronian society to have a minicon pet. In addition, the newly built gladiatorial pits were in need of pit-animals and arena-fodder to feed their audiences blood lust. Both factors lead to an increased demand for the construction and sale of beast-minicons.

Ravage, along-side Laserbeak & Buzzsaw, was built in the con-facilities of Stanix and sold to the Arena master of the Tesaran gladiatorial pits.

However, the polity of Tesarus was increasingly unstable, with anti-functionist feeling in the city, inspired by the writings of an unknown Tarnian, leading to mass civil unrest, protests and occasional riots. One of these riots eventually broke out around the arena compound, with an explosion (possibly deliberately placed) blowing a hole in the compound wall. This and the general confusion around them allowed Ravage, and his siblings, to escape their captivity before their first ‘real’ fight.

On the run from their ‘master’ Ravage, Laserbeak and Buzzsaw, made their way to the mega-polity of Kaon, intending to hide in the city’s extensive underbelly. Unfortunately, desperate for Energon (as all three were dangerously low on fuel after their long walk to Kaon) the three made a deal with Springer, a mech with links to the infamous crime network informally known as the ‘wreckers’, in return for ‘enough Energon to last three Megacycles’, they agreed to ‘rough up’ one of Springer’s extortion targets who had refused to pay up, an apparently defenseless device-former with an interest in off-world music.

Springer, however, had no intention of keeping his side of the bargain and, sensing an opportunity to get a free ‘job’ done had tipped off the local Functionaries (specialist Enforcers tasked with upholding the caste system and catching rogue minicons/device-formers).

Unaware of this the trio set out to fulfil their end of the bargain, however upon their arrival at their targets residence they found the place apparently abandoned. Ravage and his siblings returned to Springers base empty handed (hoping to persuade him to give them some of their agreed Energon), only to be ambushed and captured by the Functionaries.

Fortunately for them, they had been followed by their intended victim, Soundwave, who had originally intended to confront Springer himself. As a device-former Soundwave knew all too well the trouble the minicons were in, and opted to intervene, using his data-cables to stun the Functionaries from behind and release the trio.

It was the start of a beautiful friendship. Opting to stick together for mutual protection the four quickly formed a very close friendship, which eventually developed into a symbiotic bond (where the host, Soundwave, could sense the health of the ‘deployer’/symbiotic minicons and see/hear through their optics/audio sensors if needed). Over time the four also built up a small secret network of Cybertronians and Colonists aimed at rescuing beast-minicons, device formers and those who had fallen foul of the Caste system, and smuggling them off Cybertron informally known as the AVI (Anti-Vocationist-League). The group eventually openly declared itself as part of the pre-war Decepticon movement.

Note: Shattered Glass is the transformers version of the classic Sci Fi mirror-verse trope, where the Decepticons are the good guys fighting against the evil Autobots.
