Description
for those who are wondering...in his original concept sketches, the Good Rev. Awdry had Henry set down for an Atlantic 4-4-2 type locomotive, possibly an LNER C1, over the 4-6-0 "Black Five" we know and love today. i simply did this design when i came across a picture of a very fitting engine while browsing the LNER archives.
add a face from the TV series and Boom! an Awdry-approved Henry.

I really like this. The GNR C1' s are my favorites.

Curiously, I think this IS how Henry will look in some upcoming flashback stories Wildnorwester has coming up.

well, it makes sense: Henry's base is a mix of the C1 Atlantic and the A1 Pacific. I saw WildnorWester's model for him, and while i think he needs a BIT more A1 in him, it certainly fits the description.

I really like this idea. Kind of makes you wonder if he'd stayed an Atlantic and Thomas remained a J50, doesn't it?
If it interests you, I've done a remake of Thomas and Gordon with Thomas and Henry in their original forms:Β marzipanhomestar66.deviantart.β¦

Thomas really wasn't a J50, though they did share some design elements. based purely on the Rev. Awdry's toy for Christopher, Thomas seems like an entirely freelance design.
personally, I prefer Reginald Payne's adaptation of him into an E2. more aesthetically pleasing.

I know, but still, it's kind of fun to imagine if Thomas stayed a J50.

I wonder what inhuman thoughts lay behind that Atlantic's slightly-derpy eyes... (Hey! A river! let's all go for a swim!)

Henry actually looks quite good as an Atlantic.

Henry was a LNER A1/Ivatt C1 Hybrid which was the retcon made by Awdry later on.
Personally I prefer his Black 5 form

So thats what the C1 is huh?
I still chuckle at the back story of mixing the A1 Pacific with the C1 Atlantic. Its a miracle Henry functioned at all

if you check his original Drawings of the engines, Henry was a C1.
