Moon 1
Shadowkit is now an apprentice! He will train under Mistywing's careful guidance. The two touch noses and set together, their mild personalities making a dignified and lowkey ceremony.
Unfortunately, Barleystar is captured and brutally killed by a small group of rogues. Unable to flee or call for help, all nine of his lives have been taken from him by the time he is found. The clan mourns his passing much too soon.
Moon 2
Deputy Blossomwatcher travels to the Silver Tree to share dreams with the ancestors and take up the mantle of leader. The long-dead cats of the first TimberClan greet him and grant him his nine lives. From the old queen Leafwillow, he receives the life of empathy, bittersweet and deep; from a forgotten warrior known as Raggedface, bravery in the face of insurmountable odds. From Quailkit he learns the life of adventure, carrying that energy forward no matter what stands in the way. Surrounded by silver-coated kittens, Rabblepuddle gives him the life of courage, the determined fury of someone with something worth dying for. A small young cat, Wasppaw, touches his nose and gives him the life of mentoring. Puddlestalk brings with her the life of grace, weaving back into the crowd so that Flutterclaw can bestow the life of far-sightedness. Elderly Dawnfall offers the life of selflessness, to do what is right even at his own cost; and lastly, Barleystar himself, offering a life to give him strength to lead in dark times.

When he leaves the hollow, he emerges as Blossomwatcher. When he returns to camp, he appoints Mistywing as his new deputy. Though he's uncertain at first, the clan's approval of his choice sets his mind at ease.

During a particularly slow day, Rubblekit asks Coddawn where kittens come from and she excuses herself, she has a very sore shoulder the healer must tend to right now.
