Windfola snuffled at the green grass as she walked slowly through the field. It was a quiet, peaceful autumn day. The other mares were also enjoying the warmth on their backs. Emelin and Lirilla, always inseparable (even in pregnancies!) grazed close by, chatting happily. The foals were playing and jostling each other not far off, under the close eyes of their mothers. Windfola didn’t know where Breigo and the geldings were, but she was sure they were nearby. All in all, a lovely day.
”Hey look! It’s big pregs and little pregs!”
Well. It had been a lovely day.
Windfola looked up with a forced smile as Aloine came prancing toward her. The other mare pulled up and flipped her head, making her two-tone mane shimmer in the sun. Windfola snorted.
”Aloine. How good to see you. You’re settling in?” Windfola asked with a forced smile.
”Oh yes! This herd is quite lovely.” Aloine replied with a happy nod as she invaded Windfola’s personal space.
Windfola fought the urge to take a step back. Really, there wasn’t any real reason to dislike the other mare. But something about her just rubbed Windfola the wrong way. It had absolutely nothing to do with the way Breigo doted on her.
”So. It looks as though Breigo has been quite busy lately.” Aloine remarked with a pointed look at Windfola’s belly before glancing over her shoulder at Emelin and Lirilla.
Windfola’s eye twitched. ”Yes. I suppose he has.” she said slowly, holding back a temper.
Aloine laughed, seemingly oblivious. ”Well, can’t say I haven’t been busy myself.” she said with a flick of her tail. ”Mind if I eat with you?”
”No, not at all…” Windfola mumbled as she bent her head back to the grass.
