Riley didn't bother leaping over the small stream or bothering to find a drier path around. She could honestly care less. Her eyes focused on the ground as she walked and she didn't pay attention to where her paws were taking her. It wasn't until the familiar sounds of farm animals and scents of their herders met her nose that she looked up. Her ears perked when she realized she'd been to this particular farm before--and hadn't been chased off or shot at.
For a brief moment she felt unsure and hesitated. She glanced over her shoulder, back the way she'd come, but began to walk forward. Her stance was stalking and she kept her head low, ears perked for any sounds other than clucking farm life. She grew bolder as she continued to go unharrassed and picked up her pace, sniffing and nosing her way around, clearly oblivious to her bad manners.

Shep nosed around his farm, keeping himself busy. He was still trying to make up for allowing his mother to get injured when he left for the day, and was currently on his best behavior. His owners weren't mad at him or anything, nor was his mother, but he was mad at himself. He also felt badly for the way he had treated his friend Blue. He was afraid he put a bit of the blame on her and wouldn't exactly blame her if she didn't want to be his friend anymore. His tone had been a bit rude...
He was a bit lost in thought as he worked, but quickly caught the scent of a stranger. Or... more an acquaintance. Riley. He had let her rest in his horse barn no more than a month ago. He followed the scent until he came upon her. He tilted his head to the side curiously. "Riley?"

sourlemonfox said the following:
Riley was in the middle of licking her chops as she eyed a few chickens clucking across the yard. She was snapped from her day dreams when she heard a familiar voice and she had to stop herself from noticeably startling. Before a growl could escape her throat she recognized Shep and allowed herself to relax...slightly.
"Yo." she replied with a sniff, giving the chickens a last longing look before focusing her attention on the other dog. "What's up?"
----------
warpugs said the following:
Shep's eyes narrowed slightly as he saw her eyeing the chickens. He would have to keep a closer eye on them...
Her nonchalant greeting made him perk his ears curiously. "Not a whole lot, I guess..." He wasn't ready to share his troubles with her just yet. "Why are you here?" His tone was genuinely curious. He was in no way upset that she was here, he was just surprised she would come back to his farm.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
"Guess I'm just passing through." she replied with a careless shrug. She stretched herself out, arching her back and splaying her toes. It felt good to be out of the junkyard and in some fresh air where she didn't have to worry about any idiots trying to pick a fight. "How's farm life going? Still enjoy chasing after ducks and cows?" she asked as she continued to sniff around the property.
She even sniffed at Shep, disregarding all personal space. "You smell dirty." she informed him as she paced away, tipping over a few rocks and pushing her snout into a misplaced bucket. "Should have your humans give you a bath. Aren't there other dogs here who could coddle your charges?"
----------
warpugs said the following:
Shep shrugged at her initial questions and watched with a raised brow as she nosed around his farm. As she informed him that he smelled dirty both of his brows rose up. "This coming from the Queen of the Junkyard?" He joked. He knew he wasn't really any dirtier than any other day and who liked their owners giving them baths anyway? Especially in the middle of winter! The snow would have to do until Spring.
At the mention of other dogs he snorted a little laugh. "My siblings aren't much help. And when they try, they just tend to make things worse." He glanced over at the farm house and frowned. "And my mother is injured at the moment so she won't be helping for a while..."
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
Riley's ears perked up and she stopped her explorations to glance back at Shep. "Your mom got hurt? How?" she asked with a tilt of her head. Attempting to regain her sense of nonchalance she sniffed dismissively with a shrug and added, "Guess being a pet isn't always so cushy."
----------
warpugs said the following:
"A farm dogs life is anything but cushy." Shep said seriously. He hesitated before answering Riley's question. "I, uh, left to go spend time with a friend and she took over my work and was injured by one of the animals on the farm..." His ears fell back the more he spoke, his tail drooping a bit with shame. The shame wasn't just because he had let his mother get injured, it was also for his friend.
"I just feel pretty rotten over it all." He concluded. Why was he even saying any of this to Riley, though? She was a Junkyard dog and he was a Farm dog, they're both worlds apart, yet here he was telling his 'secrets' to the one dog he probably shouldn't have been telling them to. There was just something about Riley that he felt comfortable with, though he got the impression that not many others felt the same.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
Riley snorted and looked up from examining her nails at give Shep and incredulous look. "So you took a couple hours off. Is your mom gonna be ok? Then stop freaking out." she said with a dismissive shrug before lifting a back leg to scratch at a particularly itchy spot behind her ear.
"What, does everyone expect you to run things on your own all the time? Cause that sounds like bullshit to me." She was up again and sniffing around, surprisingly self conscious with this near stranger.
----------
warpugs said the following:
Shep didn't really care for her dismissive attitude when it came to the topic of his mother but he didn't argue with Riley. "Well, that's the job. My father did it before me and here I am. The others help out on occasion but it's mostly just me." As he said it he didn't sound too bothered by it. He liked being in charge of all the work on the farm and making sure it got done well by doing it himself. It was nice when his siblings helped, but it tended to make things take longer because they were so careless.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
"Wow. That sounds so...boring." she dead panned, giving him a weird look. Who wanted to be working for humans all the time? Some dogs made no sense at all.
"So where's this friend of yours now? Off on her own adventures? Is she a special lady friend?" Riley rattled off questions rapid fire with a smirk and rose her brows suggestively at Shep. She didn't know why, but she found it easy to speak with this farm dog, easier than most of the mutts at the junkyard at least. She couldn't help teasing him, just a little.
----------
warpugs said the following:
Shep rose a brow and cocked his head to the side, wondering what exactly Riley did all day that was more fun than working.
He gave a small snort. A special lady friend? He didn't have time for that kind of stuff. "No." He shook his head with a shrug. "I don't really know, I guess so... I haven't seen her since that day."
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
Riley gave him a look and said, "You run her off?"
----------
warpugs said the following:
"What?" Shep rose a brow, unsure of what Riley meant. "I mean, when my mom was injured I was with her so I left pretty abruptly when I found out... It wasn't the best of...partings." He felt hesitant and suddenly uncomfortable speaking about that moment now. He was a bit embarrassed of himself and didn't want Riley to see that side of him.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
"Hey, anyone would get upset if their mom was hurt." Riley said with a shrug as she looked away to hide her face. "But you can't go taking it out on someone just trying to show you a good time."
A few chickens had pecked their way closer to where the two dogs spoke and Riley pushed her nose at them, interested by their erratic, plucky movements. She wasn't about to snap one up right in front of Shep, but she'd be lying if she said the thought hadn't crossed her mind. No, these fat birds were safe, from her at least.
----------
warpugs said the following:
Shep studied Riley, deep in thought. "You're right." He finally spoke, breaking his gaze on her to look off in the direction that he knew Blue's farm to be. "I should go talk to her." He nodded firmly with determined eyes.
He quickly turned back to Riley and bounced over to her, bopping his nose gratefully into hers. "Thank you." He smiled genuinely. He was about to turn to leave, to go find his friend and apologize to her, when he realized the chickens were wandering around them. "I'll be counting those chickens when I get back." He attempted a serious look but was given away by the playful glint in his eye. He trusted Riley to respect his farm, and that meant a lot coming from the dog who barely trusted his own siblings on it.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
Riley looked up from the chickens to make some witty, catty reply when Shep booped noses with her. He was already bouncing away while she sputtered out nonsense, surprise hardly describing what she felt.
Finding herself wholly unable to form coherent words she moodily turned away from him as he spoke about the chickens, realizing too late how poofed up her tail had become in her distress. Trying her best to look put-out and grumpy she yelled over her shoulder at his retreating form, "Then I'll eat the goddamn horses!"
Muttering to herself she began to stalk away in the opposite direction, chickens clucking in her wake.
