Riley limped back into the Junkyard as carefully as she could. Her entire body ached after the latest mission and all she wanted to do was sleep for a week. Her front leg still bled freely from a nasty bite, but not as much as earlier. With foggy green eyes she barely watched where she was going and nearly tripped over a small, furry form sitting in her path. With a growl she whirled on the hapless creature. "You better move--" she stopped short when she saw the small, shaking pup.

Indigo was beyond tired, she had slipped from her owner's apartment early in the day. She had later found herself in the highest class part of the city, mansions surrounding. A guard dog alarmed her enough to send the puppy into the water, swimming for the trees on the other bank. From there she had slipping into the junkyard, it was easy to go unnoticed when you were small. Indy was sure she probably shouldn't be here, but she was so cold! She yelped as the first dog saw her as she was crossing a path.

"I... why do I have to move? There is plenty of room to walk around me!" She snapped, trying to gain back her confidence as she stood up, her legs shaking under her and she gave a sniffle.

Riley snapped out of her shock when the puppy dared standing up to her. "You impetuous little brat!" she growled, using her snout to flip the puppy onto her back and stand over her. "Where did you come from, huh? The Farms?" she asked gruffly. She sniffed at the puppy, snuffling loudly and looking at her critically. "Do your parents know you're here?" she finally asked, glaring daggers at the young dog. She placed a paw on the puppy's chest to keep her from wriggling away.

Riley was too exhausted for this kind of crap. Was this kid really Shep and Blue's? She'd seen the puppies when they were first born but hadn't seen them since. This one looked just like the only girl in the litter. But why would she be here? Some parents those two turned out to be she thought with a snort.

allytrian said the following:

"You big buffoon!" Indie tried to growl as she felt her body turn over, her shoulder hitting the cold ground.

The young puppy obviously didn't remember ever meeting this dog before, but she was curious how she had possibly known she was born in the farms. "No! Not technically, I was adopted, but I didn't like my new home so I left, that okay with you!?" The mutt snapped as she tried to wiggled out from under the paw of the bigger dog.

Frustrated Indie twisted and threw herself up as best she could, sinking her sharp puppy teeth in the leg of the dog, jumping up the moment the pressure on her chest was gone and quickly letting go. She tripped, stumbling away from the dog with her ears back. "I'm not going back either!"

sourlemonfox said the following:

Riley growled lowly at the puppy. How dare this little brat talk to her like this? She clearly had no idea who she was dealing with. "Listen kid. You're Blue and Shep's pup, yeah? Well I'm gonna--" she cut off when the puppy bit her leg. With a roar she lifted her paw, more indignant than actually hurt. But those puppy teeth were definitely sharp.

"That's it!" she howled. "I've had enough of you, you little rat! You wanna be a Junkyard dog? Fine! First lesson!" she quickly leapt upon the puppy before she could escape, lips curled up in an ugly snarl. With quick, snake-like movements she rained nips down on the young dog, not hard enough to break skin or really even bruise, but enough to teach a lesson.

Indigo tucked her tail as she noticed the angry dog coming at her, she turned on her paws and tried to leap away but it was too late. She let out a stressed howl of alarm. She shut her orange toned eyes as she felt the nips against her. The black and white dog was honestly pretty afraid, but she couldn't let this dog know it! She tried to snarl, which came out as a high pitched squeak. Her puppy lungs couldn't make her sound threatening yet.

"OK!" She barked, trying to stop the assault. When she managed to crawl away she stayed on her stomach staring distastefully at the dog, her pride hurt. "How do you know my parents anyway?" She asked as she kicked her legs out from her stomach, which still had a good deal of puppy fat in it.

sourlemonfox said the following:

Riley stopped her attack and let the puppy escape but she kept a leering glare on her. "I'm...friends with your dad." she replied, taking steps toward the pup. "Now tell me how and why you're here. This is no place for a fat little puppy." she snapped, looking around nervously. It was lucky she'd been the first to stumble upon the girl instead of one of her less friendly faction-mates.

Indigo rolled her eyes at the comment about her weight, she didn't much care what this dog thought of her. She knew she'd loose the belly as she got bigger. She wasn't much pleased with how short an answer she got from the dog either, just a friend didn't tell her much and the puppy narrowed her eyes at the dog who watch her.

"Well for starters, my name is Indigo, nice to meet you." She spoke, sarcasm dripping off each word, she was normally nice, but the first impression of this dog wasn't going to well. "I got adopted by this girl who thought I was cute, but she'd never home and she just shuts me up in a cage everyday for hours. I didn't like it, I hated it! I saw my chance to get away and I took it. I was exploring when a guard dog across the water by those huge expensive houses chased me off. I swam the river and tried to stay in the forest but it wasn't warm enough.." She trailed, there were still pieces of frozen water matted in her long fur. "So I went in the direction that I could smell dogs. That's it, they had some patrolling about and they looked like they might chase me off so I hide. For a while, but I'm hungry so I was coming out to look for anything I could eat when you about bowled me over." She finished, her last words sharper then the rest.

Riley tried to keep her temper up as the pup spoke, but she was too tired. With a visible sag she let go of her anger with a sigh. "Alright." she grumbled. "You're coming with me." Without another word she stepped forward and grabbed Indigo by the scruff, lifting her up and beginning to walk to her den. Luckily it wasn't far.

Slipping under the refuse she climbed through the open car window of her personal den, feeling instantly warmer out of the weather. Without ceremony she dropped Indigo on her pile of blankets. "Stay here. I'll go get you some food." Riley ordered, slipping back out.

allytrian said the following:

Indigo gave a short yip as she was pulled up by the scuff, she remembered when her mother would do this do her, to make her get off her brothers when she was playing too rough. She curled her legs in, her wavy tail tucked between her legs. She wanted to shout a retort but being held by the neck skin made her silent. Indie waited until she was plopped down on some blankets, and she had to admit they were warm.

She was about to snap a remark when the dog said she'd go get food. Embarrassed the puppy simply nodded and began to dig into the blankets, burying herself in them. She spun and stuck her head out, chewing on a corner as she waited, but her eyes grew heavy and tired and she felt herself falling asleep, her head sagging over the blankets.

----------
sourlemonfox said the following:

Riley dug through the meager scraps of food she was able to find. Nothing substantial enough for her, but they'd fill a puppy's tummy just fine. Scraps in mouth she trotted back to her den and wiggled back through the window. At first she thought the pup had left when she noticed the lump under the blanket. With a grumble she placed the scraps down on the front seat of the broken down car and carefully crawled into the back seat, finding space between Indigo and the seat back. With a sigh she laid her head down, eye lids falling heavily. She'd figure out what to do with the pup later.

----------
allytrian said the following:

Instinctively the pup found herself gravitating towards the new source of heat. She had wiggled half way out from under the blankets in her exhausted state. The black and white dog crawled in between Riley's chest and under her chin. She likely never would have done it had she been awake. In sleep though, Riley reminded Indie of her mother and siblings and she clung desperately to the warmth. She wasn't used to the real cold of being out on her own.

----------
sourlemonfox said the following:

Riley felt a pang in her chest when the pup snuggled against her. Living the life she'd made for herself...she'd never considered pups a part of it. But now she almost regretted the choices she'd made. With a firm shake of her head, she threw those thoughts from her mind. She was what she made herself. There was no going back. But as she looked down at the small bundle of fur she felt a deep, aching hollowness. This was Shep's daughter...not her own.

Riley sighed deeply, feeling all the little pains in her body from the last mission. She'd nearly forgotten. Tentatively she lowered her head and sniffed at Indigo. She smelled warm and alive. Hesitantly she licked she top of the puppy's head, feeling ridiculous. What was she doing? With a huff she laid her head down, curling her body more protectively around the pup and trying to convince herself it was only for warmth.
