Description
A role play between and featuring our characters Evita and Quill for .----------
warpugs said the following:
A fine mist filled the air, dampening the brown she-wolfs coat as she padded through the wet grass of a field quite near the Fellfang territory. The sky above was overcast, but Evita appeared very upbeat as she padded along, almost as if it were a spring or summer day. Her nose was to the ground as she followed the scent-trail of a rabbit and she only raised it occasionally when she heard a sound, or to sometimes peer curiously into the shady forest that edged this side of the territory. There seemed to be no wolves patrolling this particular spot at their border but she almost felt as though someone was watching her. Her paranoid thoughts were only increased by the state of the weather: a misty fog made it impossible to see too far into the distance.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
Quill had already been near the border when he saw a flash of brown fur making its way through the mist. It was hard to tell, but he thought it may be another wolf from outside the pack. His ears flicked back as he thought about turning away and ignoring the possible threat. He glanced behind him back into the safety of his pack's territory. But what if this wolf was a real threat? He wouldn't be able to live with himself if something happened. With a deep breath, he bounded after the other wolf, trying to be quiet and thanking the mist and rain for dampening his footfalls.
He managed to get in front of the other wolf and circled back toward them to put himself directly in their path. With a shiver of apprehension he lower his head and flattened his ears, a low, tentative growl rumbling from his chest.
----------
warpugs said the following:
A brown wolf appeared before her and she stopped, drawing her head up and back. Her eyes narrowed and held uncertainty as her ears fell flat against her skull. The brute gave a low-rumbling growl at her that caused her hackles to bristle. "What is it you want, wolf?" She called to him defensively, glancing back in the direction she had come, half-expecting Rikki to have followed her and be standing there to save her from this run-in. Sure, she was playing it risky by being so close to a pack's territory, and if Rikki found out about this later she wouldn't hear the end of it, but she wasn't within the pack's borders so she didn't see much harm. This wolf seemed to think otherwise.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
"You need--" Quill's voice broke and he coughed to clear his throat, already wishing he had stayed in the forest. "You need to leave." he growled, voice deeper than normal. He tried to make himself appear even larger, his hackles rising as he fought against the urge to turn tail and run. "You're too close to Fellfang territory. If you don't leave I'll m-make you."
----------
warpugs said the following:
Evita turned her head to the side, eyeing him curiously, though her ears were still pinned back and her hackles still raised. Despite his act of toughness, his stutter gave her doubt. "I'm too close? I'm not in the territory and I have no plans to be, so let me be on my way." She narrowed her eyes again indignantly. She was certain that if she was firmer than he was he would drop the act and let her by.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
Quill felt himself shrink down when the female wouldn't relent. "Oh..." he muttered, taking a step back. She was right--they weren't in Fellfang territory, the loner was fully within her rights. "Uhm...I'm sorry. Just--you can't come into Fellfang." he half whined. This was going horribly. He hoped none of his pack mates ever found out about this encounter.
----------
warpugs said the following:
"Like I said," Evita started, feeling triumphant as she haughtily began to trot past him. "I don't plant to." As she reached his side she took a moment to glance over at him. He looked so... well, pathetic. She frowned and her brows furrowed and she stopped herself and turned around to face him again. "Um, maybe, if it will make you feel better, I'll move further from the territory." She paused momentarily. Maybe she could give this awkward wolf some advice. "You should really work on your confrontation skills."
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
Quill scrambled to get out of the female's way as she began to trot past. His head was already hung in shame when she turned back to him. His ears flew forward and then pinned themselves against his skull again. "Uh uhm, no no, it's fine. I had no uh...no right to try and...stop you in the first place..." he mumbled, looking down steadily to avoid eye contact. At her comment on his confrontation skills he huffed a small, sad laugh. "Yeah...right..."
----------
warpugs said the following:
"Really. I'm serious." Her eyes widened as she spoke to further prove her point. "Like, for starters, if you give me an ultimatum you should plan to follow through with it. Or at least sound like you're going to."
"Here:" She cleared her throat and prepared herself for her most menacing look. "GET BACK INTO THOSE WOODS OR I'LL KILL YOU!" Her fur bristled and her face wrinkled with anger.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
Quill was absently nodding along to the female's tips, too humiliated to listen fully. Suddenly she raised her voice and was snarling at him. Quill backed up in shock, tripping over his own legs and landing himself in the mud. Scrambling, he tried to get away from her, tail tucked tightly between his legs as he whimpered, crouching his body down as small as he could. Finally looking up at her, seeing her face wrinkled in a growl he whined, "I-I see your point.", making sure not to meet her eyes.
----------
warpugs said the following:
Once she had finished yelling, she instantly relaxed her features and grinned. "See?!" What she saw was him cowering away from her. "It was just an example. I'm not really serious." She tried to explain. She had never met a wolf so easily spooked. Perhaps it was a good thing he was a pack-wolf. She felt bad for the poor guy. What had caused him to be like this?
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
Quill quickly righted himself again, only slightly covered in mud. He cleared his throat and tried a shy smile. "I uh...knew you weren't...serious." he muttered, still avoiding eye contact. "I'm sorry I tried to stop you earlier. I was just being...overly cautious, I guess. I'm new to being in a pack and...protecting others." he finished lamely with a shrug.
----------
warpugs said the following:
Evita tilted her head to the side, listening as he spoke. "You were doing your duties as a pack wolf." She tried to reassure him, a small smile on her muzzle. "You'll get used to it with time, I'm sure. What's your name?"
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
"Yeah...I hope you're right." Quill sighed, ears set to the side of his head in embarrassment. "My name is Quill." he replied, finally glancing down at the female's eyes--they were a pretty green. "What's yours?" he tentatively asked, hoping she wouldn't start yelling and growling again.
----------
warpugs said the following:
Evita gave the tentative pack-wolf a smile, although it was more of a reassuring smile one would give an uncertain pup. "Well, it's nice to meet you, Quill. I'm Evita." She felt a growing need in her to essentially parent and teach this other wolf. He really had so much to learn, and she assumed it was just her new-found motherly instincts kicking in, but that was ultimately his pack's job.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
"It's nice to meet you too, Evita." he replied, stiffly polite. This entire interaction had gone so far differently from what he expected he wasn't sure how to act anymore. "Uhm...thanks for being so...nice about all this." he awkwardly added, avoiding eye contact at all cost as he flushed under his fur.
----------
warpugs said the following:
Evita nodded with a sympathetic expression on her face. The poor guy really had no confidence at all. "Don't mention it." A small breeze blew past, pressing the fine mist in the air deeper into her fur. "I should probably get going..." She told Quill, glancing beyond him and in the direction the rabbits had been. Rikki would have an earful for her when she returned, seeing as she wasn't even bringing back any rabbits.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
Quill's ears flicked forward when Evita said she should be going. "O-oh, right..." he mumbled, feeling silly again. "You, uhm, have somewhere...safe to stay?" he asked, immediately regretting his forwardness. He knew how hard it could be being a loner. He just wanted to make sure she would be ok.
----------
warpugs said the following:
Evita smiled at his words, giving a little laugh. With Rikki as her mate, that question was almost ridiculous. "Oh yes, I do. A little too safe, if you get what I mean." She shook her head. It wasn't often the loner way to care how others got on with their lives and she found it quite humbling how pack wolves would care for one another. It was even rarer to find a pack wolf worrying over a loner. "You take care of yourself now too, okay?" She had turned to trot off but looked back at him with a hopeful look.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
"Yeah...I will." Quill promised with a small, awkward smile. He watched as she once again disappeared in the mist and let out a small sigh. He certainly hadn't been expecting that when he'd gone on his walk. With one more glance over his shoulder he loped back into Fellfang territory.
