Here they are, the parents of my dork, Howl! His father, Rider, is a Seal Bay Splash and his mother, Natasha, is a Red Dun Splash. These two have a tragic kind of love story. They grew up in the same herd and were sweet hearts. Rider had big dreams of starting his own herd and making Nat his lead mare. But unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be. Rider was frail and sickly as a foal, something he didn't grow out of. He was weak and small compared to other stallions and couldn't spar for long without becoming extremely winded and faint. Rider knew he would never be able to have a herd or win a fight for his true love. Natasha didn't care about any of that though--she loved him. So the two ran off together to be their own herd. It was an extremely hard life for the young couple in the desert. They were constantly accosted by bachelors and predators, always on the move. It was rather unexpected--and a little terrifying--when Natasha realized she was expecting. It was a big "oops" on their parts. They hadn't ever planned on having foals for fear of being unable to care for it by themselves. The couple basically went into hiding in an attempt to keep Natasha safe. One starry-skied night, while wolves sang their melancholy tunes, their foal came into the world. The foal wailed loudly and his cries echoed the wolves, earning him the name Howl. The little family was happy--for a while. But one day, a bachelor challenged Rider for Natasha and threatened his young son. Rider gave it all he had and was able to chase the offending stallion off. But...he never recovered. His wounds were to many and his energy totally spent. He passed away, leaving Natasha to raise Howl on her own. Without her mate, Natasha tried as hard as she could to care for herself and young son. But, eventually, she was captured by a stallion and forced to join his herd. Thankfully, the stallion was relatively kind and was no threat to Howl. So Howl spent the last year of his foalhood in a stable herd and grew into a strong and fierce stallion that his father would have been very proud to call his son.
