Tex Aka No. 2248 Was Built in 1896 by the Cooke Locomotive & Machine Co. of Patterson, NJ for the Southern Pacific Railroad at first as #1829. He was renumbered to #2248 in 1901 and was assigned to fire train service until more modern methods were developed. From March 15th, 1945 - March 10th, 1949 He was leased to the Pacific Fruit Express . It was then on onto display use until He was retired from service on May 3rd, 1961 (completing 65 years of service). It was then sold to the Purdy Co. Scrapyard on May 8th, 1961 and was later sold to C.T. Brown for tourist use in California. In 1974, it was sold to the Texas State Railroad as their #200 and was used for 5 years. In 1990, He was sold to the Fort Worth & Western Railroad where He operated until 1999 when his boiler needed some repairs. It was repaired in 2001 and was later sold to the Grapevine Vintage Railroad in 2004 And Was Nicknamed Puffy where He Only Worked Through 2004 To 2016 Until His Flue Time Expired Again He Was Undergoing A Heavy Rebuild At The Time It Was Hope He Would Be Ready In Time For The 2019 Season But This Wasn't To Be As In 2020 His Restoration Was Tragically Cancelled When The GVRR Purchased Two Diesel Locomotives. Grapevine Village Railroad Tried Their Best To Restore Tex But Failed Because Of His Age. After The Cancellation Of His Rebuild Some Of The Several Groups Including The Southern Pacific Steam Locomotive Foundation Or Railtopia They Wanted To Buy This Old Fire Engine Ten Wheeler For Another Steam Excursion Career But For Now He Sits Dismantled And Waits.
