This one also looks amazing. I tried sculpting once, and, well, failed miserably. XD I've always admired your work, but seeing you capture these charecters just so perfectly really takes that respect to a new level.

Again, very well done. ^-^

Amazing. I didn't know you followed Black Blood Alliance as well. It's it an awesome comic? Riptide is one of my favorites. You did him so well. Beautiful

Nnnngh now you really make me want to commission you (as if I didn't want to already DX).

It's wonderful how it flows and you don't often see a mid-stride pose like that in a sculpture...or maybe I'm not looking hard enough XD

Agirl3003 [2009-09-20 23:41:42 +0000 UTC]

how do you get them to balance like that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SovaeArt In reply to Agirl3003 [2009-09-20 23:44:13 +0000 UTC]

It's not hard at all! You simply have the armature extend down past the paw into the base, and angle the base toward where most of the weight is, so it's as centred under the model as possible

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Agirl3003 In reply to SovaeArt [2009-09-20 23:58:01 +0000 UTC]

@.@ I have tried poses like that but the back always weighs it down

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SovaeArt In reply to Agirl3003 [2009-09-21 00:02:07 +0000 UTC]

you see though, the way the paw is attached to the very front of the base? It's basically a giant C shape. The base extends out under the body to balance it. It's very stable

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Agirl3003 In reply to SovaeArt [2009-09-21 00:11:12 +0000 UTC]

do you use heavier clay for the base?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SovaeArt In reply to Agirl3003 [2009-09-21 00:16:42 +0000 UTC]

nope, same clay all over

I'm impressed at how just..flawless the figure is, dynamic, and the fact everything is just so symmetrical. Really wonderful job!

SovaeArt In reply to frisket17 [2009-09-20 23:45:09 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I realized when I was doing this that I'm actually really rough and a bit brutal in my regular paint jobs, I had to be really meticulous with these!

frisket17 In reply to SovaeArt [2009-09-20 23:57:09 +0000 UTC]

Well it worked well, and these pair of figurines you've done are fantastic! Though, due to the movement of the piece, got to say this is my fav.

Domnopalus In reply to SovaeArt [2009-09-20 23:40:57 +0000 UTC]

I believe it was Gensen Figure [link]

I think they kinda messed up the anatomy

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SovaeArt In reply to Domnopalus [2009-09-20 23:47:33 +0000 UTC]

They got a really flawless finish though, as the master sculptures were made from wax. It's sort of hard for me to do that in clay, though I've seen some people who can!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Domnopalus In reply to SovaeArt [2009-09-21 00:41:55 +0000 UTC]

There are ways to get flawless finishes with clay, too, I'm pretty sure--my figurative sculpture professor has been talking about teaching us them. One way I know for sure is to take a piece of clay and roll it over the sculpture until it gets smooth; and another way is to use turpenoid or alcohol and apply it with a soft brush. It would be worth looking into I think, if you're concerned about making surfaces flawless, because your anatomy is certainly more practiced than theirs :3
