Description
Too heavy were the lead chains.Sunken in their rust, they fell too fast.
They broke all the emerald statues,
With the strikes of the mallet of time.
With their black spikes they pierced them,
And injected their poisons in the veins.
All the venom turned into wrinkles on the faces,
And white dye that covered the hairs.
They broke them into living, green pieces,
Who still pulse with life in the depths like drops,
Who scream from inside with a deaf echo.
They beg to be reassembled, and the chains be melted.
Although the sculptures can be broken only once,
Not every one will perish in that one moment.
Sometimes, the chains are just too heavy to kill,
So, their whispers disturb even the long-ago-chilled.
Nobody knows about the quiet truth in the dark:
The raft of Charon sank long ago...
