Aloof was closer to what I intended. I couldn't think of a proper word for those people who always seem to be distracted. The kind who cannot walk and chew bubblegum at the same time, but who insist on trying.
Here's a story for you. Some time back a girl I knew who had a young daughter who was still young enough for a child seat in the car. I was riding shotgun on the way home from a visit to the local city zoo and gardens, my GF and her daughter were in the back seat along with the little girl in the child seat. My GF couldn't get the child seat belted properly, being a ditz. So after going around a corner and having the seat tip half over I waited till we stopped at a red light, jumped out of the car, went to the back, and was in the process of belting the little girl back in - with both passenger side doors wide open mind you - and the light turned green and my friend drove off. Leaving me standing on the street after ducking back out of the car when she left me. It took half a block of my GF yelling at her to stop before she pulled over. Even though she watched me get out of the car, she was so distracted by her own rambling that it didn't completely reach her consciousness. Light = green = go. . .Β Β
