Description
The invasion begins! Kind of 40k Imperial Guard ( although the aircraft are a bit too organic to be imperial).Related content

Actually each soldier was drawn individually. Great care was taken to ensure they were as identical as possible. This may be a lie

But today, January 29, 2013 is the Beginning of the End... The End... OF THE HIDDEN LEAF VILLAGE!
At long last the *motherfucking* English Dub of The Invasion of Pain Arc has been released TODAY! On DVD In the 13th Uncut Box Set, AND on iTunes! Sadly it only goes up to episode 163 "Confessions" but it hardly matters, we have all longed to see and watch the Invasion FREE of Disney's VILE censorship Death-Grip. But lucky for us Naruto fans, the Invasion Arc conclusion will be released this year's April, and for the final clash between Naruto and Pain I can only say 15 words while simultaneously listening to the tail end of "You're a Soldier Now" plays and imitating Peter Cullen's TFP Optimus Prime voice: "At the end of this Battle and Day, One Shall Stand, One Shall Fall."

Similar. Like Death Korps, this army drew on ww1 imagery (with a dash of Napoleonic and furturistic thrown in). Death korps are some very nice miniatures though. I've used DK command squads for my guard army + a DK commissar. The rest is a mix of ww1 , kit bashed tanks (ww1 MK4s and soviet armoured cars) and some old warzone miniatures.

Quite possibly. They forgot what the war was about a long time ago. Probably an argument about what colour hat the Emperor wears

my main army is Eldar but I have a secondary IG force. I got a Death Corps of Krieg commissar from forgeworld and use him as my main HQ.

I would do all Krieg for my IG but its WAY too expensive. But one day I do want to get the super heavy tank with the giant plasma cannon and Ima name it Edleweiss.

Sounds good Have you seen the 'Dust Tactics' minis? Very nice indeed. I've got 10 germans that I'm using as vets in my Guard army and a walker which I may use as a Russ- [link]

This has the hallmark something you'd find starting off a movie scene, (or really good game) for setting the scene. I can just picture the marching cadence of feet on ground as the guns fire in a staccato of bursts, lighting up the sky and ground as the bombs descend, the gouts of dirt, stone and building and counter-battery fire light up in return. The flash of muzzle-fire, rounds of snipers, and the heavy emplacements scything through and back from each side. You nail the power of an army at march, in its best side, the power, and fear it evokes.

Thanks It was mostly an experimant to see how easily such an image could be acomplished. I may use the technique again at some point in one of my comics.

Kewl. I'd like to get a WW1 german helmet some time-one of the late pattern ones with the studs for an extra armour plate on the front (+some trench armour if possible).

They do look much like Imperial Guardsmen (reminds me heavily of the Death Korps of Krieg soldiers), but there is a lot of originality, not to mention raw talent, going on here. The lines of soldiers with charged rifles does actually look quite menacing, as does the swarm of bombers above them. Really nice work on the flash of the gun muzzle by the way. First class work

Thanks A lot of people say 'Imperial Guard' without realising (or perhaps remembering) that GW plundered history to design its variose regiments. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The best sci-fi and fantasy design tends to draw on historical sources. Just look at Star Wars.
So for this army I referred to history rather than sci-fi. Mainly a mix of WW1 and Napolionic with some of my own ideas thrown in. Again-thanks for the kind words

I agree, thats what I love about the Imperial Guard as an army, the historical references used in their creation by the chaps from Games Workshop make them look all that much more impressiv, especially the Praetorians and Death-Korps.
And I fully sopport looking back to history for inspiration when creating anarmy, its what I'm doing myself with my novel. Why create something original when the Victorian era has some of the best uniforms and tactics to offer XD.
Which reminds me, there's a PS3 game you might like called Valkyria Chronicles, which is essentially a game set in a fantasy universe in a WW2-esque conflict. Each type of soldier has their own unique ability and the uniforms and weaponry are remarkable. If you're into fantasy warfare, I recommend checking this out

Oh yeah-I have that game-love it (although I'm not very far in) Very Ghibli in look (Miazaki's also a great fan of this deisel punk style-I was inspired to make the army project largly by one of his books 'Hayao Miyazaki's Daydream note'-the text is in Japanese but it's well worth picking up for the amazing illustrations [link]
I also love the Death Korps although I don't own many of them. My guard army's pieced together from varios historcal bits and bobs with a few Death korps officers thrown in here and there to give it that 40k flavour. I'll have to post some photos some time.

The comparison is understandable as the tech era is roughly equivalent to 1930s ( although an alternate version). Stylistically I was more influenced by the French, both in their ww2 forces and to a lesser extent Napolionic (there are a few stylistic accents from that period). The gas masks give it more of a Great war feel.

Thanks! Those were certainly insperations. I'm thinking of starting another similar project designing an army of devils with a medieval theme. The plague doctor masks would certainly be an influence there as well.
